Fantastic meal this evening. After reading the 'Marmite-style' reviews I decided to give it a try and I'm so glad I did.
Working away during the week means I have to go into restaurants and ask for a table for 1, but the staff were very welcoming and gave me an option of tables too which isn't usually the case.
The restaurant sensibly requests that you order a max of 3 or 4 dishes at a time to avoid wastage, and I was very impressed at how quickly they came out. The food was hot, delicious and cooked to perfection. I tried to vary the dishes as much as I could and had prawns, squid, lamb, beef, aubergines, fried peppers, fried potatoes with aioli, and dipping bread with oil and balsamic vinegar.
I was a bit confused after reading the previous reviews as to why some people complained about small portion sizes. The menu is "all you can eat", so if you love a dish and want more, surely you can just order another portion in the next round?
I have a decent appetite but I was definitely full after 8 different tapas. There were loads more on the menu I would have liked to try too, but I'm going to try them when I go back (and I definitely will).
Service was excellent, the staff were attentive and I felt that even though I'd only had '2 rounds of tapas', it had been excellent value for money. It's a shame I didn't have room for more, or a dessert - as the dessert menu looked great too, but maybe next time đ
I headed in at about 6pm, so although there were a few occupied tables, it wasn't too busy either. I'd recommend a visit here to anyone, but if like me, you're working around here on business, I think you'll struggle to find better quality and...
Read moreWe went on a Saturday afternoon and I suppose weren't surprised that it wasn't full, as the restaurant is on the outskirts of Darwen rather than a town centre, and we were seated at a large round table that had been set for 4. The extra settings were removed as we sat and we were offered drinks, we opted for the house red, which was a passable Spanish red, though there was a good winelist and interesting selection of cocktails available. The staff were attentive and allowed us time to peruse the 40 or so tapas dishes before we ordered our first 8 (4 each). The dishes arrived quickly and were very tasty and well seasoned, and this was the theme throughout. Notable were the calamari, which were cooked to perfection and not rubbery which is often a complaint, the prawns in garlic and chilli, which were large king butterflied king prawns, and the ribs, which were so good I had a second helping. Throughout, the service remained swift but not invasive and the food arrived quickly. We were both very impressed with the whole experience, the food was tasty and of good quality, the staff were great and the bill at the end was not eye-watering (which it has been at previous taps restaurants). I would highly recommend Mangiamo Tapas and we will...
Read morePossibly the worst meal I have ever had. My starter of souvlaki was raw. They took it away and apologised, but a replacement didn't appear and my friends had finished their starters so we said I didn't want a replacement. My main which was risotto marè looked like it was slopped onto my plate without a care. The squid was rubbery and most of the mussels were unopened. The rice itself was tasteless. My friend's greek salad was 80% lettuce she had asked for extra olives but there were hardly any on so I don't think she got them. My other friend had asked for rice to accompany her main and it was so overcooked it was mushy. The staff did apologise again and offered free desserts but we declined. They didn't charge us for my starter or main, or my friends salad and only half of my other friends main, but the experience was spoilt by the food. The restaurant looks lovely the staff are friendly but today the food...
