Darwen Heritage Centre — Local services in Darwen

We visited the Heritage Centre at the weekend while spending a few days in the Darwen/Blackburn area doing some 'family history', and trying to locate and visit as many associated sites as possible in a relatively short space of time before heading back south. The team members at the Centre were all extremely welcoming and helpful, including assisting us to identify the exact house number where my grandparents, mum and aunt had once lived on Olive Lane, and the church where my grandparents were married in 1924. Great little place, lots of local history, photos and artefacts. The staff, who are all volunteers, made us all feel welcome and were brilliant with my son. He loved it so much, he took me back the next day, aswell! So great to see a place like this in these times where places are closing and heritage is at risk of being forgotten. Enthusiastic and knowledgeable volunteers, Pat and Albert, were eager to share information with us which added to our enjoyment at learning some of Darwen's history.
