5 STAR and Well Worth the Trip People are often fast to criticise but so slow to congratulate. After this evenings visit I would have no doubt highly recommending the Mayflower Devizes for anyone wanting a very pleasant evening out, in a truly relaxing atmosphere, able to enjoy their meal with the feeling of being rushed along by staff.

Receiving a most pleasant greeting upon arrival, after being seated our drinks order were immediately taken and delivered without delay or fuss. The restaurant was reasonably busy for a Tuesday, which to us was a good sign as it is clearly a popular eatery.

We were given ample time to pursue and discuss the menu, with appetisers brought to keep us going whilst our food was being freshly cooked.

The starters all arrived promptly and we found them excellent both in quality and presentation. The waitress, most pleasant, even remembered to ask if we needed more drinks. Clearly an eye for detail that was much appreciated.

There was no rush between courses, and we were given ample time to enjoy & digest our food with light conversation, before the empty plates were cleared.

Always smiling our main courses, again well presented and of high quality, were delivered by the same waitress whose pleasant manor and welcoming approach certainly made us feel at home.

Nigel was particularly attentive, making sure everything was to our satisfaction, and again giving us the opportunity to top up drinks on this rather warm evening.

Given the high quality of the food, the level of service and the amount of drinks that were had ordered, we were surprised by the relatively low cost of the entire evening.

A FIVE STAR experience if every there was one and well worth a visit. I know we will be returning soon even though it is almost a 50...

When you have been ordering very frequently for nearly 5 years, very similar order each time, but get delivered tonight not all your order and some of the order wrong despite me asking the order to be repeated back, to then drive down to try and sort so as a whole family can sit down together to warm food, the response was awful. No understanding. Last time we order - we have had many orders slightly wrong from here but enjoyed the food but this is the last time. The food isnt cheap but we dont mind paying if its right but again the service has been appalling. Need a new chinese. Cost us £70 and they made us bring back the wrong dishes to prove it!! Why has it taken us so long - because we want to support local and when the food is right it is good but the service has tipped us now. After working a long week and wanting to treat the family and as a mum not cook for one day this ended sadly and i wish i had just cooked again! *In response it was also missing 2 dishes - seaweed and a prawn dish was wrong. Both that and the duck were clarified twice on the phone and repeated back by caller We came to collect as we wanted to try and then eat our whole meal warm and at the same time Apologies if i got 5 yrs wrong - we moved here nearly 5 yrs ago so i assumed it had been the whole time - in that case we have tried to support you...

Following on from the Restaurant's response: It seems to me something has changed, if my recollection of my first visit is correct. Of course, it is not at all uncommon for the quality of supplies to decline in the pursuit of economies. I've eaten satay and curry all over South East Asia, so have some yardstick against which to assess Oriental food. I take no pleasure in being critical of small businesses, but also take no pleasure in mediocrity. Good luck for the new year. It's been year or so since we last visited, and remember having had a nice meal in this restaurant. Unfortunately this visit was very disappointing. The food was very average, the prices not so. My wife's shredded beef dish was the worst she'd ever had. The chicken satay was bland, spring rolls ok, and my Thai curry had poor quality meat and again a rather bland taste. Pleasant waiting staff and a clean, if rather characterless environment merited a couple of stars overall. But if you are familiar with good Oriental cuisine, don't expect to find it here...not for the...
