1 Spice — Restaurant in England

We had a very disappointing experience in 1Spice last night. Table booked for 630pm. Drinks and order for popodums came quickly but by 815pm our mains had still not arrived. We chased it up several times and the staff just disappeared on us. Takeaway collections were now queuing out of the door. I could not see one table in the restaurant with food and, along with us, the tables around us were getting impatient and angry. It was very clear they were prioritising takeaways as they were the only people getting food. We cut out losses and paid for our drinks and left. We were a table of 3 couples who are unlikely to eat here again, there are plenty of other Indian options in town. What was more shocking is that when we complianed they just ignored us and were only interested in being paid. No apology explanation or discount for bad service etc.

It ruined the night as we had plans to visit a few pubs after but ran out of time.

This is sad to see as I have eaten at 1Spice many times and had numerous takeaways from here. The service and food has always been good up until now.

It was embarrassing as we were with people from out of town.

I came from Ukraine with three children, my wife and sister, saving them from the war. And I decided to celebrate my birthday in your Indian restaurant. I wanted my birthday away from my homeland to be pleasant and happy. But when I left the restaurant, I had only negative emotions. We ordered £150 worth of food and wine. The food was delicious. But soon a waiter came up to us and asked us to quickly pay off and leave the restaurant without even letting us finish our wine. He explained this by the fact that we have already been sitting for 2 hours and other customers have already come to our table. It was an order from the owner of the restaurant. I traveled all over the world, but for the first time in my life I was kicked out of a restaurant, and humiliated in front of my children and on my birthday. For such a great country as England, such behavior of waiters and such attitude towards customers is unacceptable. It's a shame! Think a few times before coming to this restaurant - you may also be kicked out...

Somewhat embarrassed that I chose to book this restaurant for a group of eight friends visiting Devizes for the weekend, however, the majority of the reviews were superb so, why would I not? Our starters were delivered quickly and represented excellent value for money as the portion sizes were more than generous. We then waited almost 2 hours for our main courses but they were not forthcoming. It was apparent that they were prioritising takeaway orders over eat in customers. No explanation had been forthcoming, nor an apology or any offer of compensatory drinks, etc so, having observed another table of diners walk out, we paid for the drinks we’d had and also left in disgust. As we were leaving, a table next to us who had arrived well after us, were being served their main courses however their order was completely wrong - we wondered whether they were being served our main courses!
