Bill came to £145 for two people. This is the third time we have been to Mr Lous to try their “famous” lobster deal where you get a bottle of champagne with any 2pb Lobster which is only on Fridays. Each time we have been they have had NO lobster! Food we did order was extremely overpriced, dry and unpleasant. Duck spring rolls (£7) hardly had any meat in them, just stuffed with a load of Veg.
Honey Chicken (£18) was basically 8 chicken nuggets on a plate with NO Sauce! We had to share the sauce from another main.
Prawn toast (£14) was awful! It is basically one piece of toast stuffed with more than the usual amount of Prawns. It was dry and taste was overwhelming with the amount of prawns stuffed in there.
King Dum Po Chicken (£24) + calamari (£4) =£28 total for a main without any rice or chips! You could tell they reduced the portion size just to add the Calamari. Portion was mainly veg with little meat…. AGAIN!
Tried to order drinks with the porter who brings food to the table which he said he’ll get a staff member to come over. 15 minutes later no one came. I had my meal with no drink. We was in the booth right next to the bar so I had to go up and order it myself. Cocktail took another 10 minutes to come.
Drinks were overpriced due to the lack of complimentary champagne with the lobster (which we called and was assured they would have on!). Service was extremely slow, waited 20 minutes to get a waiters attention to pay the bill. You could spot way off who the owner was as she was stomping around the restaurant piercing looks at the staff.
The concept of this restaurant is amazing, But the delivery on service, food, affordability and customer service have been compromised by its former reputation which once held this establishment in such a high pedestal. Now, it seems it’s got more expensive without any improvement on its service. It is the kind of restaurant you try once just for experience, but retention of customers is defiantly an issue this restaurant faces.
Restaurant itself was designed with a gorgeous interior with good lighting. But, I wouldn’t...
Read moreMy partner and I have always loved Mr Lau’s and have been to this restaurant many times. We were excited to see the ‘January sale’ where the food is ‘half price’ and eagerly booked, happy to pay the £20 deposit to book the table. When we arrived, we quickly noticed that all the menu items seemed to have gone up significantly in cost since the last time we visited only a few months ago, which we put down to the cost of living crisis, although we were disappointed that it wouldn’t be quite as much of a bargain as we had hoped. We were then also disappointed when the usual free offering of prawn crackers and dip were not offered to us. In addition, we were shocked at the price of two drinks from the bar - £15 for a glass of wine and a pint of lager. When our starters arrived - a hot and sour soup and prawn skewers, we noted that the portion was smaller - usually you get 3 skewers and this time there were only two. The hot and sour soup was bland and unimpressive. Our main courses were nice, though notably smaller portions than usual. We put all this down to the ‘half price January.’ A week after however, my partner noticed that he had not been repaid the £20 deposit for booking the table and emailed them to enquire when it would be returned, only to be told that it cost £10 per person just to book the table and it would not be returned. None of this was mentioned on booking and on the website it clearly says £10 deposit per person which infers it should have been returned once we turned up to our booking. All the magic has gone from Mr Lau’s for us and we will not be returning after our last experience. If anyone is looking for a good alternate restaurant nearby, the tapas and Italian restaurants at the end of the street it is on are outstanding -...
Read moreInitial thoughts were that it was going to be a good experience as the restaurant was busy and seemed popular. We were seated and after around 20 minutes our drinks order was taken but they couldn’t take the food order because that wasn’t their role. After another 10 minutes somebody else came for the food order who was very apologetic that we were still awaiting our drinks to come. Our order was taken and the starters were quick to arrive. The ribs tasted good but for the price I was surprised by how little of them there was. We waited for about another 30 minutes for the table to be cleared and was asked if we wanted our mains or did we want a gap. We asked for them to be served and off they went. Another 20 minutes passed and finally my husband’s main and my rice came, followed on by his rice. At this point I was advised that the dish I had ordered wasn’t available and did I want something else? I explained that I had ordered the food an hour ago and that I should have been told before this point as we were expecting to eat together and that the rice I’d ordered was already going cold on the table. They were very apologetic but at this point we were both very disappointed with our experience and sent the food back paying only for our drinks. It’s unclear what the real reason was as there were plenty of staff, all of which were very polite and courteous, however it seemed very disorganised and as if nobody knew what was happening. Other customers in our proximity were experiencing the same and the chaos quickly became topic of conversation amongst us. We finished our drinks and went home for...
