I have been here many times. The views are fantastic, overlooking Penryn River, loads of outdoor seating. Fair amount inside too and the decor is bright and cheerful. Friendly staff. Had coffee several times and it's great. I've had items off the brunch menu and the portions are quite substantial, depending on what you have and your personal opinion of a good portion, and some things are morw filling than others. I've also had the evening menu and the portions are decent too. All tastes great, but if you have a picky eater with you it may be harder to choose to something and you don't get "pub grub", a lot on the evening menu is fish based. I was disappointed when having the Heuvos to get a little bit of smashed avocado, as opposed to the slices I was expecting from social media pictures. If you want simple, this maybe isn't the place to go. Is it expensive? Tea and coffee are average, everything else does seem a bit more dear than other places (so for example, fish and chips costs more than other places I've been to for much the same thing) and sometimes it feels as though we've had to wait a long time. Can depend on how busy it is. I think a lot is prepared fresh and uses local ingredients, so it would take a bit more time. I'm guessing it costs more to have a prime location and this is reflected in the price. In summary, whether this is a good place to go depends entirely on the individual. If you want the views, if you're happy to pay a bit more and like brunch and fish based food, it's all good. Their cakes...
Read moreClearly you must be making truck loads of money because today nobody could be bothered to serve us. We arrived, found a table, settled down with our dog and settled him on his rug, my wife entered the cafe to see if there were any menus and to see what cake might be available, she noted that there was some cake there but seemingly no menus and returned to our table. During this time I noted three young women arrive and a young male staff member immediately appeared, provided them with menus and without looking in my direction, disappeared back inside. For several minutes, no other staff members came outside and so, being conscious of our limited parking time, I too ventured inside where I was met with your signs stating table service only and no menus to be seen. I returned to my table. Shortly after, a young lady member of staff approached the table next to us and took their order for food, she the then collected up their menus and without looking at us began to walk away back inside. I called after her for the menus and was told that “we are no longer serving food”. It was 2.34 on my phones clock, we had been waiting for some time. Being local and having been to your establishment on previous occasions, this experience has left us somewhat disillusioned. We took our custom elsewhere, where we were welcomed, felt welcomed and with whom we were more than happy to...
Read moreDelightful cafe overlooking the river which l last visited some years ago under a different name I think. It's dog friendly and there is paid parking next to it at the traffic lights. Interesting menu (although the specials clipboard wasn't offered to us on a Sunday lunch time). We didn't want a big meal so I opted for the eggs benedict with smoked salmon, which wasn't cheap. As the picture shows it was immense and very good value. My lady opted for the even more expensive open steak sandwich and this cost the missing star. The steak was really good and there was plenty of it. However the bread was very hard to cut and the onions were just overwhelming and dominated the very large two piece open sandwich. Half of it with less onion and easier to cut bread we would happily have paid two thirds of the price for. My lady is hard of hearing so maybe tone down the music? Will happily return so well...
