We headed here to take advantage of the 30% off mains voucher we had received. This was the first time we had been in since the refurb. The refurb has tidied the place up, but is no radical overhaul. There were a few people in, but I wouldnât have described it as busy.
We ordered 2 pizzas - one pepperoni with extra onions and peppers, and one sloppy Joe pizza. They arrived in a decent time but both pizzas were wrong. Mine was lacking the extra peppers that had been ordered and paid for, which I noticed straight away and the guy that brought the food across basically asked me what I wanted him to do. I suggested a refund of the cost of the peppers to which he agreed, disappeared, and came back with the card machine. I wasnât given a receipt so have no idea what has been refunded. My other halfâs pizza appeared to be the vegetarian version (peppers (ironically) rather than pepperoni, and we assumed vegetable chilli rather than beef chilli). He had to go across to the bar and wait for someone to appear. He was told they would redo his pizza and it was taken away, leaving me to eat mine while he sat waiting which felt awkward. Someone then came over to say it was the beef chilli (but still without the pepperoni), but they would still remake it (to add to the awkward feeling). The chef came out and duly started to make a new pizza, and gave us a dirty glare as he went back into the kitchen. Finally, after I had finished, the replacement pizza arrived.
To be fair, the pizzas were nice, the dough was lovely and they were decently topped. My disappointment was with the customer service. At no point were we offered anything to say sorry for getting both orders wrong, and for us each having to eat individually while the other sat, and for the chef give us a dirty glare was appalling really.
ÂŁ26.something for two pizzas, a Diet Coke and half a shandy (with the 30% off mains and unknown refund pending)
We wonât be heading back in a hurry!
To add: I have now spoken to the Newton Grange privately, Lewis has apologised profusely for the catalogue of errors, and had sent me a voucher for a return visit to the value of ÂŁ50. I will post a new review, once we have...
Read moreWas a nightmare today no prawns for the starter. Ordered a pizza it looked like a 5year old made it at a pizza party and was wrong anyway. Send it back waited over half hour for another one and there was no meat on the pizza just lots of kidney beans (what's not described on the menu or I wouldn't of ordered it) got the deserts for takeout as everything took that long got home one desert isn't there and the others have the ice cream mixed together so got home to boxes of soup put everything in the bin absolute nightmare
This is another review as I called again today and again absolute shambles. Was five if us and they brought all the starters and mains outside were we were sitting all together (don't know why) the plates woudnt even fit on the table so the took the mains back we had our starters then they brought out our mains to which the waitress said aww we've grilled everything fresh again as I ordered a mixed grill. All the meat was hardly even luke warm and everything was that dry it was inedible so it got sent back. They've cleared put it under a heat lamp and just put a fresh egg on the plate. Got the kids pizza to take away and again looks like a child made it with a 2 inch crust and hardly no toppings. The kids burger was like sawdust and had chunks of black charcoal on from the grill. Look. Heres a photo...
Read moreWe had a table for 11 for my mum's birthday. The food was ok although I think the burgers could be greatly improved with the addition of onion and the option of having cheese, a "sprinkle" of shredded lettuce felt a little miserly too. My husband said he enjoyed the pizza but felt that there should have been cheese on the top as this would have prevented everything falling off when he picked a slice up. Overall, we had no complaints regarding the venue or the food. One thing that I found puzzling was the refusal by a member of bar staff (young male) to check the men's toilet area for me for my husband's welfare. I was concerned as he had been an unusually long time. The rest of our party were already in the cars and I returned to the pub looking for him. The member of staff said that "I don't think i can do that actually", thankfully another member of staff came over so I was able to explain to her and she sent him to check. My husband was ok, he had received an unexpected telephone call that he needed to attend to. I don't understand his response to my request but perhaps he maybe needs to understand that concerns about someone's whereabouts and safety are important. I would have been left with no choice but to go into the toilets myself to check on him. He could have been in a state of collapse as a worse...
