Pier 5 is a truly great spot for a relaxed evening out. Located right by the river in Chatham Maritime, it boasts a fantastic feel-good atmosphere. The extensive drinks menu is a real highlight, offering everything from proper real ales and a great selection of lagers to a wide variety of whiskeys, gins, and much more. Whether you're after a classic pint or something a little stronger, they've got you covered. My recent evening there was fantastic. Enjoying a good drink and some delicious food while watching the river flow by was a real treat. The view across the River Medway is a definite plus. One thing that really stood out was how comfortable the outdoor seating area is, even when the evening gets cooler. They've thoughtfully provided plenty of heaters, making it a warm and inviting space to relax late into the night. When it comes to food, you absolutely have to try their loaded fries. The "mucky" options are particularly amazing – I highly recommend the Mucky Swine loaded fries with spiced fries, crispy streaky bacon, cheddar and mozzarella cheese, house burger sauce, and BBQ sauce. They also do a Messy Cow version with beef chilli and jalapeños which sounds equally tempting! The portions here are generous, especially the chicken wings. You can get a 0.25 kilo portion or go all out with a 0.5 kilo or a 1 kilo shareable (or not!) amount. They're tossed in a secret recipe house blend seasoning, and you can choose your preferred sauces
If you're looking for a relaxed and enjoyable evening in Chatham with great food, a huge drinks selection, and a lovely riverside setting, Pier 5 is definitely worth a visit. The added bonus of ample outdoor heaters makes it a comfortable choice even on cooler nights. Just make sure you try those incredible loaded fries and the generous...

Staff not 100% on their face mask protocol. Greeting patrons at the entrance without a facemask and keep removing their masks to talk to each other at the bar.
Wondering about health risks the way my cutlery were presented. Felt like I was about the get tetanus in a jar.
Chicken was dry ....tried to eat some but was too dry and sweet potato fries were soggy.
Another visit here today: staff are insensitive to customers preferences and comfort. Ordered an Aperol spritz cocktail, the description on their webpage states that the cocktail has soda in it. Now spare me but if you're making a cocktail outside going to taste delish not like someone is trying to poison you!
Nor me neither my friend could swallow this "medication". I politely went to the bar and explained that the drink is not drinkable as they must have mistakenly put soda water instead of sprite in the drink. The young lady confirmed that the drink is INDEED made with soda water. So I explained that we unfortunately not able to drink it as it is too bitter for consumption. She retorted by saying well we can't just refund you because you don't like your drink. I said it's not that we don't like it...it's too bitter to drink! She said well if you want anything else you have to pay for it and also pay for the drinks you won't drink.
This is after not even having chicken on the menu because they out of stock...how do you go out of stock of chicken! They should just close tbh. I think ppl keep giving high ratings on here because the options are very limited in Gillingham/Chatham.
After trying to give TETANUS in the past.

Read moreFood was nice however the service from staff is the worst I have ever experienced. Also check no one has started to eat the food before you as staff don't know table numbers.
The main dish served on a side plate so tiny portions for the price.
Service was so poor it was comical toward the end, after being brought food for other tables and having to tell the staff what was our food, they forgot the extra side of an onion ring on the burger. we ordered 2 children's strawberry ice cream after mains to be brought brownie we advised what we ordered and the staff insisted this was ours so to save another 5 mins arguing we took it (by this time my 5 year old wanted the brownie) she then relised and took the brownie from my 5 year old once he had already started to eat it and gave it to the correct table.
We then asked for another brownie to which the manager advised we would be charged for it even thought they had forced it onto our table previously. It was only when we pointed out they have gave another table a dessert which my son had already started eating that they changed their mind, they didn't take the dessert back from the other table and they then gave us an onion ring 15 mins after pudding which is the extra side then forgot.
Check your food hasn't been eaten by someone else...
