We booked in advance for afternoon tea on a Sunday and wouldn’t recommend it at all.
We received our drinks very promptly but waited 1 hour 15 minutes for the afternoon tea to arrive. The service has been slow on previous visits to the restaurant but never this poor. The couple next to us also seemingly waited a long time for their afternoon tea. We were however offered a complimentary drink because of this. Some of the food was tasty, as are other meals I’ve had here, but it seems as though we were given left overs from what remained in the kitchen e.g., missing sandwiches, no butter for the cheese scone, majorly disproportionate sausage rolls, dry scones and bread. The whole thing was bizarre and difficult to share, especially with singular desserts.
We later asked for the bill, multiple times, despite staff standing around at the bar. Upon receiving the bill, we were informed that the cost of the afternoon tea had risen by £20 since I bought the voucher in December, and therefore I was asked to pay the difference. This was resolved and honoured by a manager after a discussion, but I would’ve otherwise been expected to pay the difference due it “being updated on the website with the new price”, which I find appalling. I informed the server when we sat down that I had a gift voucher, but the price increase never came to light until the bill arrived.
I am extremely disappointed in the whole experience given this was a gift for my grandma. It is certainly not worth £64, never mind the price I originally paid. This is even worse when accompanied by the poor service and food quality. There are much nicer afternoon teas out...
Read moreDon't really know where to start, walked in packed to the rafters thought madonna was in there, it was that busy found a table just as someone was leaving and also bumped into an old friend by chance, order placed at 13:25. latte arrived half an hour later. This is not an overestimation it was literally half an hour for a latte. Queue was 10.bodies deep clogging up the door so on the off chance of someone shouting fire its is a forcasted stampede. Steak pie and fries served on a tea plate with a steak pie in a tin and no fries? Waiter brought back a larger tea plate with chips not fries and half a jug of gravy lifted the pie of the tea plate took the tea plate away and moved the pie onto the larger plate i just could not comprehend what was going on. Never asked how my meal was, no glass and ice served with my cold drink planning and service were abysmal but the food unreal cannot complain on taste because it was absolutely gorgeous. Yes i do understand they were busy but they are not in there first stages of trading they should have a forcast of sales and staff balance measure for a saturday afternoon cannot have the same staffing levels of a monday morning and a saturday lunchtime, all bodies working the floor were not over the age of 21 no visible person of power 6 bodies behind the counter yet half an hour for a machine made hot drink. I do intend on going back in a quieter period and hope it was...
Read moreArrived this afternoon with a very unhappy 1 year old and exhausted 5 year old. Waited to be served. Eventually a woman with short blonde hair asked abruptly if I had been served. I smiled and said no. I placed my order and she asked if I had sat down yet. I said no, to which she replied 'well you need a table number first'. I saw them all to my right to happily grabbed number 15 and said I'd be number 15. She very rudely replied, 'no, you take that to your table first then order'. Absolutely appalling service!!!! I promptly told my kids that we would not support a business with such rude staff and we walked out. I have never had such bad service in Morpeth. Infact we had just the opposite experience yesterday in another Morpeth coffee shop with a the barista being particularly kind and sympathetic to me with 2 young kids and despite it not being table service there she offered for me to go sit down and she would bring it when ready. There maybe a process of sitting first and then reporting your number but on the 3 occasions I have been before the staff have happily asked where I will be sitting and then given me the number to take. It's what common sense would say to make the customer feel valued, let alone a customer with two unhappy children. Customer service was totally undervalued today and I will certainly not be returning or meeting anyone there...
