My friend and I ordered the Ravioli Mare and mezza paccheri miguel and asked for the meals to be split equally between us. To our delight, we were told that the request wouldn't be a problem. However, two full meals were brought out, which were subsequently returned to the kitchen to be halved. I appreciate that when you order a full plate of mussels, it is common for some of the shells to be empty. As our meals were a seafood mix, we had a total of 10 mussels between us. The mussels were placed on top of each plate, making it virtually impossible not to notice that the shells were empty. Each of us had one mussel and four empty shells (well, a small prawn in each that may have slipped in). The restaurant did bring out new mussels without any empty shells. Normally, I probably wouldn't have written this review, but one of our party also had a more serious issue. Her meal was not brought out with everyone elses (just her veg). She asked where her meal was, and it was obvious that it had been missed. When it was finally brought out, the chicken was pink and raw looking and had to be returned to the kitchen. After she finally received a cooked meal, she was told that the chicken she returned was cooked but strangely the new chicken was a completely different colour inside which was obvious to us as a piece of the first chicken was on a side plate. The annoying thing was that it took my husband to have a quiet word with the manager to suggest that someone needs to apologise. It has just come to my attention that a another member of the party who had chicken with a sauce is not...
Read moreSo we went to Lollo Rosso Italia for my son's engagement celebration. Firstly it was a cold day and the place didn't open until 12pm so the line outside at 11.55am was promising. Normally if there's a queue it's a good place. We got seated in a party of around 15 and drinks soon followed pretty quickly as did the menus. The kids and starters (for those having them) came promptly and my wife had the goats cheese with bruschetta finished with a thick gorgeous balsamic drizzle. Others include a small portion of spaghetti and meatballs amongst others. Kids were catered for with half pizzas and chicken tenders in breadcrumbs and of course chips! This is when things started to go a little wrong for us. Not in any way with the staff or food but what we could only put down to being a busy Saturday lunchtime. It was a full hour before we then got our main courses. And those of us that didn't have starters like me. We're now starting to tuck into the table cloth or whatever they could. I got a prosciutto fungi (ham and mushroom pizza) and I can't tell you how it tasted as it just flew down my neck. I mean an hour! The kids by this point had eaten so we're getting tired and restless and it was hard to sit still for them. We skipped dessert as we didn't want to be there another hour. Summary, food and venue and staff all really nice. But no matter how busy a restaurant gets waiting for one hour between ordering and arrival of the food is pretty poor. Especially when kids meals and starters came so quickly. Would I ever return? Yes I think I would. All the food was absolutely...
Read moreAs I used to work up the road at another venue I only ever had take away or delivery from Lollo Rosso until last night.
As take away and delivery were always excellent, I knew bringing my dad here would be a spot on choice, we were not disappointed!
Although I'm a big eater and love my food I knew that the Meat Feast Pizza that I fancied was going to be a proper adult sized one so we didn't opt for the undoubtedly delicious starters.
The pizza was perfect as I expected, hand formed from perfect dough and stone baked in a wood fired oven, topped with their excellent tomato base and fiordelatte mozzarella the meat selection was both generous and wide ranging from spicy pepperoni to beef meatballs and beautifully sliced ham.
Dad went with their Penne Al Fredo which was superb, the chicken was succulent and melted in the mouth (had to swap a piece of my pizza with Dad to get that without being growled at LOL!), the sauce compliments the chicken and pasta delightfully.
As a dessert I couldn't pass up the opportunity to try their Tiramisu, The creamy Mascarpone was not at sweet as I've had elsewhere and the reduced amount of Marsala meant that it was much lighter and all the better for it as the flavours were more delicate and balanced, the small sprig of spearmint and the ripe raspberry made for wonderful flavour bombs which made for excellent counterpoints to the wonderful texture and flavours of the Tiramisu.
10/10...
