FOOD FANTASTIC, SERVICE TERRIBLE
We had heard such good things about this place and right from the moment we walked in it was clear our waitress was in a grump with something. We don’t expect much from our servers but a smile is a start!
At first we were sat on a rubbish table by the window (50cm from the table next to us) so we asked to move. The lady hardly batted an eyelid before telling us no, without an apology. I understand that sometimes you cannot move table but another couple came in later on and asked to move, to which the manager facilitated straight away. Also, the tables towards the back of the restaurant were vacant for the whole evening. It was clear that the lady could have helped us if she wanted to, but she didn’t.
They didn’t have the wine we wanted, fine, but the lady made us feel like we were massively inconveniencing her for having to bring another bottle over. Her face was a picture. If you’re reading this, be a bit happier!
The main problem was with the waitress but there were a few other things that we had expected to be better: We weren’t asked if we had any allergies (I have a severe nut allergy) We weren’t given any side plates for our starter Our wine glasses were very dirty and clearly hadn’t been polished We had to pour our own wine You’d expect these things to be much better in an establishment such as this.
On the other hand, the younger staff were so much more smiley and friendly. They made us feel like they didn’t actually want to murder us. The manager was more attentive and it was clear he was slightly embarrassed about his waitress’s behaviour.
Right, so the food was excellent. We had the porterhouse steak (1kg) with parmesan fries and the broccoli. If I’m being hypercritical, the steak was very slightly overcooked. However, it was very tasty and I liked the plates and dishes in which our food was served. I had seen some very nice new Prime steak knives being used, but we were given some from the 13th century. Maybe this was our waitress’s doing. The wine was great, even if it wasn’t the bottle we asked for (it was an Argentinian Malbec called Alamos).
To conclude, I think we would have had a really pleasant experience and would be able to ignore the minor details if we had a server who wasn’t chewing on a wasp and was slightly more welcoming. Like I said before, the younger staff were lovely, maybe it’s time for out with the old, in...
Read moreI was looking forward to going to Prime Steak & Grill as I'd read such great reviews, the pictures of the restaurants looked very pretty. I hadn't been in the past as I'm not a steak eater but, saw they have a couple of fish options. So I booked, told my partner I was taking him somewhere nice. The restaurant itself was very pretty. However, the table for 2 people are a little on the small side. It's not a good experience when you have to constantly rearrange the table to fit food and drink on it. The service was fine, I expected better, it was the basic service I would expect. Now on to the food, we shared a starter of king prawns was was nice, good portion size for 2 of us. My partner ordered fillet steak, with fries. He was very pleased with the steak and the fries were spot on. We also ordered a house salad and sauteed green beans which were cooked well. I ordered the blackened Cajun Salmon. When the plate came out it looked very pretty, good portion size, I was looking forward to this. Unfortunately, the salmon was dry, there was no cajun taste, in fact it was bland. I ate my meal used some of my partner's peppercorn sauce for the salmon. I told the waitress the salmon was dry and she said she'd let the kitchen know. We had cheesecake to share, again good portion size and tasty. Overall for myself I was very disappointed due to the dish I ordered, my partner was happy. Would I go back, not in a hurry, maybe it is genuinely a place for those that eat steak. It's not cheap, was pricey and I knew this when I booked but, that was fine as I was expecting very tasty food and that was not what I received and service was standard, though a...
Read moreWe visited for a special event after hearing so many good reviews in person about this place, but they either were lying or the restaurant slipped into an alternative reality tonight as we had a shocking evening.
The steaks were dry, cheap and chewy, and not worth the money paid for them - you’d likely find a better steak in the discounted section at the Sainsbury’s across the road. There was also no consistency with how they were cooked - medium rare was closer to well done, medium well served raw. Ordered two of the same and they looked polar opposites. Some plates were swimming with oil and balsamic vinegar whilst others were bone dry. Chips were wet, undercooked and poorly seasoned. Sauces were far too salty and yet the spinach wasn’t seasoned enough. Dessert was both boiling and frozen. Drinks were cleared before they were finished. Staff were rude and uninterested, and yet really overbearing. Felt like our being there was an annoyance to them. We were also advised too late that a certain dish contained an allergy even though we’d advised that people would be sharing it. The list of grievances goes on. Strangely, the only person in the group who seemed to enjoy their meal without complaint was the vegetarian…
Maybe we would have had a better experience if we’d ordered 3 chateaubriands and 4 bottles of champagne each, but I wouldn’t want to risk wasting the money to see if it would change anything. It really put a damper on what should have been a magical experience. I would heed with caution if you visit here as you...
