I have been a regular at the beech house for many many years. Back when they were a single unit before the expansion. I’ve always loved it, loved the food & atmosphere. However I will no longer be returning.
I booked a meal for our anniversary, all good & confirmed. In the notes I mentioned il be bringing our young cockapoo who’s a good boy to the meal, we were aware and completely fine with being in the bar area.
Upon arrival we were told to sit in the restaurant despite me asking if they’re sure that’s ok as I know it’s normally dogs in bar only. We sat down, within 5 mins another member of staff came over to move us.
We were in the bar area, it was a Sunday evening so mainly dead. There was a family with screaming kids and a couple of ladies who were absolutely steaming, disturbing everyone. Everyone who was sitting eating food ended up moving to the other end of the bar including us. The kids were flinging chairs across the floor, yelling. Running in & out of tables of people who were eating and you could clearly see everyone was getting annoyed. Manager behind the bar couldn’t care less. I Kept telling the kids & the women to stop coming up to our table when we’re trying to have a meal and to leave the dog alone. Then they were calling him from across the room. The looks on all the customers faces were fed up & quite surprised the staff just couldn’t care less despite people complaining about it.
We ordered our starters which came and were great (squid & prawns) the halloumi however came lathered in the thickest layer of the cheapest tasting tomato sauce going. Ordered the mains, was told no chicken available, no Caesar salad and no rice (!) which wiped out half the menu. Ended up getting Lebanese lamb and opted for cous cous instead which wasn’t too bad. Lamb very fatty. My wife ordered a Sunday roast which was stone cold. Absolutely stone cold. We complained and they took it back saying a fresh one was being made, when all they did was nuke it in a microwave. It arrived back with the same veg (cut open potato & 1 carrot on plate as wife had them) and tried to play it off as a new meal until we challenged it. Potato’s were just mush. Beef was overdone and chewy. So half of it went to the dog so at least one of us had a great night.
No one came over to ask how it was or to check on us.
The beech house used to be a quality place, great food great drinks and great people with a buzzing atmosphere, but the people coming in the door hoods up, trackies on and the low quality food is giving a weatherspoon vibe yet they’ll pull your pants down on the pricing. It’s gone downhill over the last year for sure and I definitely won’t be recommending it or coming back. Instead il Head into the old town instead it’s got beautiful friendly family run...
Read moreFirst visit to the restaurant this week for my younger cousins graduation dinner and unfortunately the experience was ruined at the start. We were told that the restaurant only allowed tables of 6 due to the COVID restrictions, and we had a party size of 7 but were told our tables would be next to eachother. We were understanding and expected the tables would just be separated but we would still be able to see and conversate with each other. Instead we were sat on seperate tables that had a screen in between and our backs were facing each other. When asked if we could be moved to another set of tables that didnt have a screen in between or atleast set in a way that we could speak to eachother, we were told there were no other tables available as the others had been booked or that they had to follow Government guidelines. Bearing in mind we had also booked our table and had arrived before the other people who had supposedly booked the tables we had enquired about. I just found that staff were unaccomodating to our situation, and what was supposed to be a lovely family celebration ended up being 2 separate dinners separated by a screen. I understand there is Government guidelines in place due to COVID but we were only 2 households, the group of 8 guys who had been seated on the table we had enquired for were all from different houses but still allowed to be seated together with no restrictions and if the restaurant was really that strict on guidelines then I would have expected staff to be wearing masks etc.
I think the whole experience before even receiving our food just soured the mood and I couldn't enjoy the...
Read moreIt was my second time visiting and it was quite dissapointing this time. Food felt a bit bland and tastless already the first time but I thought I should've just chosen something different. This time I chose chicken milanese burger and it was one the most tasteless things I've ever eaten. The chicken didn't have much flavor and it looked quite pink inside and none of the other components gave flavour as well. There was hardly any cheese and I thought I saw from the menu that it would come with ceasar sauce but it didn't. For the price I paid for it, it was definately not worth it. Also, while the service was very good the first time I came, this time it was pretty much non existent ever since we got our meals. We were sitting about an hour without given any attention at all and we had a 1 year old child with us who was getting restless. It took us a fiew attempts to get some attention and when we did manage to speak to someone we had to ask for a pudding menu twice and when we finally got it, it still took a long time for someone to clean our plates and take our order and everytime the waiter pretty much ran off. Also my friend probably got the wrong pudding, looked a lot more sticky toffee with a spicier sauce than a brownie. I could see that there were other tables and some of them larger groups but it definately wasn't packed as there was no one sitting around us most of the time. I could totally understand everything that might be going on behind the curtains as I've worked in the industry myself but that wasn't a pleasant experince by any means. I wouldn't recommend...
