This was indeed an interesting find, basically a bit like an Indian cafe, with English food offerings too. I had a chorizo, cheddar and onion toastie with crisps and side salad (about £5 I think) and hubby had the aloo tikki burger (£8). We both really enjoyed the food although the burger looked a bit clinical on the metal serving dish, it tasted good. See photos of mains - sorry, had already started nibbling!
We also shared a slice of Victoria Sponge cake which was clearly homemade and it was delicious. They had a range of homemade cakes to die for.
I had English Breakfast tea which came with a strainer and an offer of a free hot water refill and hubby had an Americano - both good quality.
What I like is the Indian/English mix, you could have a traditional English cream tea or an Indian one with pakoras.
When it came to service, this is where they excelled.
If I owned a restaurant, I would want the petite Indian woman managing my serving team! I dropped my clean cutlery on the floor, before I bent to retrieve it she instructed a young waiter to give me a new set. As I took the last drop from my teapot, she offered a hot water top up. When we ordered the food with the waiter, we ordered the cake to share too and within seconds of finishing the mains, the plates were cleared and our cake arrived. Amazing service - the place was busy, they weren't hovering over us and she was very on the ball!
I would give the place 4.5, loses a bit on decor which doesn't quite work for me. They have a clever and different dining experience and need to reflect that with the decor.
Would consider trying one of their themed...
Read moreStopped for a late Channa brunch and what a taste bud tingling experience we had at Realitea! 👍 This is the ideal place if you want something quite different to the norm? Stepping off our UK street into a very relaxing nicely decorated cafe whisks you off that hamster wheel of hectic life for a few minutes! The Kahwa tea (blended en site by the owner) was or is best described as a fusion of flavours of green tea and spices. Very distinct taste and at the end of the meal we bought some of the very same tea to take home. The main course , I had the chicken and my wife had the chickpea, as there was another vegetarian main that was sold out! I love Indian food and this was one of the best tasting dishes I have had. (Ok a lot of you out there may have "more" Indian food experience! But you have to remember this is just my opinion) With a very light and delicious sponge cake for dessert the experience was...
Read moreMy wife and I had heard about this place through word of mouth for serving great, authentic, Indian cuisine. We weren’t disappointed! We went for lunch and had a brilliant, very reasonably priced meal. I loved the place; Lovely atmosphere and clearly an important part of the community for some of the patrons, A great quirky mix of English / Indian tea room, A brilliant menu with a huge assortment of teas and cakes to top off the brilliant Indian food, The food itself was fantastic, full of great flavours and ingredients, And the service was absolutely spot on - super attentive and very very friendly.
I would highly recommend this place . In fact, if you’re passing through Ripon, don’t leave without calling in!
It’s great to see somewhere that’s a bit different , serving great food and building a great reputation. Thank...
