Cafe On The Square — Restaurant in England

We went to have breakfast here today. We have been to this cafe a few times over the 2 years as we are visiting Ripon and it has been pleasing everytime.

Our cappuccinos were brilliant, as they should be with enough foam to milk ratio and they were, we were also asked how strong we liked our coffee which is a huge plus so thank you.

My partner was really craving a cheese toastie from here as that's what he had last year at breakfast in our last visit to Ripon. Now I know menus change over time and that is understandable and instead settled on a bacon sandwich. This was no problem, but I just thought the response he received was a tad abrupt. We aren't overly sensitive to knock down a star for this but I just thought we'd mention as we were customers in the past and that the rest of the service today was brilliant.

I had poached eggs on avocado toast, and I really enjoyed it. I think the chef came out and asked me if I enjoyed it, and I did tell him yes. However I'm quite shy so I couldn't say exactly how much I loved it so instead I am going to leave a good review for you here and for making our visit to Ripon lovely.

We will continue to visit for good when we visit Ripon as it always makes our day.

Dropped in for some breakfast. Can’t beat a good cafe breakfast - but sadly won’t go back.

The building has clearly got a damp problem and anyone with asthma should avoid, it’s not the best environment to sit in.

My husband and I went in, the cafe wasn’t full - I would say half full at best.

The tea was lovely but the food felt a little re-heated.

The main issue we had really was that while we we sat eating the elderly couple at the table next to us weren’t speaking to each other but in their phones - obviously fine but the lady was watching a show on hers and it was so loud, it overtook the whole restaurant.

I looked to the staff to do something who just shrugged and looked uncomfortable, they were young though to be fair and probably in experienced in the situation .

I lent over and politely asked the lady if she could turn it down and she snapped at me and said ‘ I would if everyone will stop talking because I can’t hear it’

Quite comical really, but just ruined the experience - a very basic experience overall added into the rude lady the staff ignore. Won’t be...

First time visiting. Ordered full English breakfast and a bacon sandwich with hot drinks. Drinks came quickly and waited patiently for our food. It was 11/11/22 and 11am approached. Radio went to silence and passers-by visibly stopped to respect the 2 minute silence, the customers in the cafe carried on their loud conversations about how much alcohol they used to drink and their drink driving activities! Perhaps the staff should have advised of 11am and if people could respect the 2 minute silence? More customers arrived and they were served and got their food before us! I spoke to the staff and we had basically been forgotten. No attempt to rectify the situation but given our hot drinks for free.
