Red Chilli - A Culinary Catastrophe
My recent visit to Red Chilli was, to put it mildly, a profound disappointment. Having heard a few whispers, I decided to give it a try, hoping for a vibrant taste of India. What I received instead was a bland, chaotic, and utterly forgettable experience.
From the moment we walked in, the ambiance felt... off. The "red" in the name seemed to apply only to a few faded accents, and the general decor felt tired and uninspired. The tables were sticky, and there was a faint, unpleasant odor that lingered in the air, not of spices, but something vaguely stale.
The service was equally lackluster. Our waiter seemed more interested in his phone than in taking our order, and when he finally did, he was curt and uninterested in answering any questions about the menu. Drinks arrived late, and one of them was wrong. It felt like we were an inconvenience rather than paying customers.
Now, for the food – the main event that truly sealed Red Chilli's fate in my book. We ordered a selection of dishes, including a chicken tikka masala, a lamb rogan josh, and some naan bread. The chicken tikka masala, supposedly a classic, was shockingly bland. It tasted more like a generic tomato sauce with a hint of something vaguely curry-like, and the chicken itself was dry and stringy. The lamb rogan josh was greasy, with the lamb being tough and the sauce lacking any depth of flavor or the rich spice profile one expects from this dish. The naan was undercooked and doughy in the center, and burnt on the edges. It was a masterclass in how not to prepare Indian cuisine.
To top it all off, the prices were not justified by the quality. I've had far superior Indian food at half the cost.
In summary, Red Chilli failed on almost every front: atmosphere, service, and most critically, the food. It's a shame, as Indian cuisine has so much to offer, but this establishment simply does not do it justice. Save your money and your taste buds, and look elsewhere for an authentic and enjoyable Indian dining experience. I certainly won't...
Read moreMy sister and I visited this place 3years ago, we had such a lovely meal we were looking forward to the next. We visited again the other day and unfortunately could not say the same thing. Our starter came with the main meal - not good! My main dish was far too hot ( not what it said on the menu) so when asked if everything was ok, I did say it was too hot he said, I can correct that for you so took it away along with what my sister had left. I had asked to take mine away.... I still couldn't eat it, it was the same, infact I would go as far as to say he tipped what my sister had left into mine as it turned the colour of what she was eating!! The reason we will NOT go back is because my sister, after the meal, visited the toilet... And if you are Hot on hygiene as we are it begs the question what is the kitchen like!!!! I speak as I find, too many restaurants getting away with poor hygiene these days my eating out days are becoming fewer unfortunately. Where are the inspectors that should be checking...
Read moreI had high hopes for this Indian restaurant based on the reviews, but unfortunately, it was a major letdown. The service was painfully slow, and the staff seemed disinterested and inattentive throughout our meal. We had to ask multiple times just to get water refilled.
As for the food, it lacked the authentic flavors I was expecting. The butter chicken was overly sweet and lacked the richness and depth of real Indian spices. The naan was soggy and clearly not fresh. To top it off, the biryani was dry and bland – it tasted like reheated leftovers rather than a freshly cooked dish.
Cleanliness was also an issue – the table was sticky, and the washroom was in dire need of maintenance.
For the prices they charge, I expected a far better experience. Sadly, I won’t be returning or...
