The Red Lion is a solid, traditional-style pub & grill close to Newquay Harbour. The real ale lover will find several "cask marque"-approved hand-pumped ales, all well-kept and fresh, although the selection is a tad conventional. The spacious inside seating is divided into several areas; unfortunately, the outside provided on the ground floor level is limited and only in the back of the pub (without any view). Traditional pubs in Newquay are rather few and far between, and only a handful of them are cask-marque. Red Lion is one of the better options; what would only rate as a medium-quality pub in other, more real-ale friendly towns must rank as a superior one in cocktail-bar-focused Newquay. It is a popular place especially among older patrons (such as myself), and can get quite busy towards the late afternoon, early evening. The food on offer is superior pub grub, and my dish (grilled whitefish on beetroot, with small potatoes and a rather sad "salad" garnish) was decent but nothing to write home about. While I had drinks at the Red Lion several times during my stay I decided not to eat there again. Service was down-to-earth and friendly, if a bit rushed (the place wasn't even half-full). The meal arrived in due course though. Have a look at my photos for a better impression of the pub.

Great little pub a few minutes walk from where we was staying, it was recommended by both Google and the place we are staying as a good pub which is also dog friendly. On arrival it both inside and outside look like your average pub & grub boozer. Find a table and order at the bar, there is an app on the back of the menu but I couldn't find how to order on the app after making an account, only how to book a table. Bar staff was very friendly and knowledgeable on both food and drink side. The table staff was also friendly and even greeted the dog. The meal was great, no complaints, all fresh, hot and delicious. Very good portion sizes. I had prawn starter & steak an chips and my partner had chicken skewers & hunters chicken. Only downside is the pub is a very big drinking pub and it got a little bit too loud at one time but not the pubs fault, happy to see places like this supported and busy. Will visit again next time we come down to Newquay.

We decided to try The Red Lion for dinner on our last night of our holiday (14/05/23) in beautiful Cornwall which turned into a Sunday Roast when we discovered they do them upon turning up for me and my mum. Delicious roasts that had more flavour than another well known Carvery chain. My brother and my dad ordered off the normal menu and both was satsified with their food (fish & chips and pie & mash). We were served by the lovely Ollie which was kind, attentive, and a bit dishy himself if I must say so. 😍 The manager which I can't re call her name was very pleasant too. Definitely will be back upon my next trip to Cornwall for another Sunday roast! Keep up the good work guys! 😊 Top tip: Go as early as you can to avoid disappointment. As we went for 7:30pm and already run out of turkey and gammon I believe.

Finally walked in after years of walking past and now looking forward to going back. Yep well kept pub, really well kept beers and ales and the food is really good for a pub in a tourist town. The staff are friendly and helpful. There's two lots of outside areas for sitting in the sun while having a beer and some lunch or dinner. There's food specials and special offers some nights and it's all well priced and it's good quality too. The service is fast and the food is cooked to order, so there's a small wait, but in this place you won't worry, you'll be enjoying the beer n atmosphere too much. You can book tables in advance, but be quick as the window seats all get booked up early and kids are welcome. My only complaint is that I didn't walk into this pub years ago, but that's my fault not theirs lol

Very nice clean pub serving food, good selection of beers, largers and cider friendly staff and helpful live music and quiz on different nights of the week! My only issue i had was as myself and friends was drinking the guest cider in the box, it needs shaking now and then as it normally is served cloudy but when a new box had been put on I had 1 pint cloudy and 1 pint clear i tried to change the clear pint and explained why! but the young boy behind the bar kept telling me they are from the same box, I said yes I know they are from the same box and again tried to explain but he was not having none of it! So gave up trying- then again what do I know iv only been drinking different ciders the last 37 years? But otherwise great place nice staff definitely recommend and will go back.

Went to the Red Lion for a valentines day lunch with my partner and daughter. We decided to give a couple of the new items on the menu, both starters and mains, and we thoroughly enjoyed them, along with the stunning views! The pub has recently changed hands and if the food is anything to go by, it's a change for the better! Lunchtime - Steak Sandwich incredible value for money. Peroni and Heineken on tap too, what more do you want. We Can't wait to go back for the food and live music nights!
