Booked a table for six as we heard positive reviews about the place. The venue was nice and we were looking forward to some grub and a few drinks. We already looked on the website and noticed they offered a set menu or their normal menu. Their menu in the restaurant said you could order through the app, so we checked it out. Firstly, there was barely anything on the menu. I would say 50% of the menu was not available. We decided to order what we could through the app. The app was quite confusing so my partner asked the bar staff about it. They rudely pointed out that they do not offer a set menu. My partner politely said that a set menu was showing on their website and on their app that is being promoted on their menu and physically showed them her phone for proof. Again, they rudely said that they did not offer a set menu despite it being in front of their eyes. My partner came back to the table and was really upset as the bar staff made her feel awkward and treated her without respect. We decided to continue to try the app and luckily we managed to order. After ordering the staff member came out and told us we shouldn’t order through the app. We stated that it worked and it took our money. They then just said that we best order our drinks at the bar… which we did. 5/6 starters came out. When I asked about mine they said it’s because I didn’t select ‘starter’ from the drop down menu on their website (which doesn’t allow you to order through there… so that was a lie). I again, politely pointed out that there was not a drop down menu and that I selected the starter from the starter menu. They said they would get it out straight away. Then our mains came out. All was fine except for the fact my partner had a bone in her chicken burger. We did point this out at the end and they didn’t seem concerned. We also asked for sauces when the mains were delivered. Someone bought some items over in bottles but I couldn’t see the mayo. Again I (POLITELY) asked whether the Mayo was there. The waiter just gave me daggers and pointed towards the table without saying a word. Completely rude. The whole experience was very uncomfortable. There were items missing from our burgers but we didn’t complain as we thought it would be pointless. Would definitely not be returning. Which is a shame as the food itself was fine (minus the bone). It’s a shame the staff members let the place down.

The Red Lion is a solid, traditional-style pub & grill close to Newquay Harbour. The real ale lover will find several "cask marque"-approved hand-pumped ales, all well-kept and fresh, although the selection is a tad conventional. The spacious inside seating is divided into several areas; unfortunately, the outside provided on the ground floor level is limited and only in the back of the pub (without any view). Traditional pubs in Newquay are rather few and far between, and only a handful of them are cask-marque. Red Lion is one of the better options; what would only rate as a medium-quality pub in other, more real-ale friendly towns must rank as a superior one in cocktail-bar-focused Newquay. It is a popular place especially among older patrons (such as myself), and can get quite busy towards the late afternoon, early evening. The food on offer is superior pub grub, and my dish (grilled whitefish on beetroot, with small potatoes and a rather sad "salad" garnish) was decent but nothing to write home about. While I had drinks at the Red Lion several times during my stay I decided not to eat there again. Service was down-to-earth and friendly, if a bit rushed (the place wasn't even half-full). The meal arrived in due course though. Have a look at my photos for a better impression of the pub.

Great little pub a few minutes walk from where we was staying, it was recommended by both Google and the place we are staying as a good pub which is also dog friendly. On arrival it both inside and outside look like your average pub & grub boozer. Find a table and order at the bar, there is an app on the back of the menu but I couldn't find how to order on the app after making an account, only how to book a table. Bar staff was very friendly and knowledgeable on both food and drink side. The table staff was also friendly and even greeted the dog. The meal was great, no complaints, all fresh, hot and delicious. Very good portion sizes. I had prawn starter & steak an chips and my partner had chicken skewers & hunters chicken. Only downside is the pub is a very big drinking pub and it got a little bit too loud at one time but not the pubs fault, happy to see places like this supported and busy. Will visit again next time we come down to Newquay.

Looking forward to this visit which was recommended to us by our friends who had been before. They were on holiday with us staying in an Airbnb, they had told us so much about the pub, it's food and the dog friendly atmosphere, dog treats on the bar etc. Our friends had booked a table days before because they said it would be busy, the table was booked for 7pm so we arrived 5 minutes early, if we needed to wait we could get a beer. No need it was busy at all, just 2 people at the bar ordering a drink, we were ask by the young lady at the bar what we would like, we said we have table booked under our friends name she looked at the bookings then looked at us smiling then spoke with her colleague looking a little confused l said is there a problem? Her colleague pointed to a table to our right, we where shown to this table, l did notice all the other tables had reserved on them. Anyway long story short we ordered our food 3 Lamb Shank and 1 fish and chips, no fish and chips and only 2 Lamb Shank. Instead of the fish and chips l ordered Sausage and Mash, and our other friend had Hunters Chicken, and when that arrived it was cold the Lamb Shank was good as my wife and my friend confirmed, my Sausage and Mash not so good the Mash was runny the Sausage was dry as chaff and the red cabbage was like mush, obviously the meal was over cooked in the microwave l left my meal. I must point out the two young ladies working where very good, very polite and apologetic but this didn't change my feelings at the time. Our friends were also disappointed because they had recommended it. We decided we would finish our drinks and then leave, the pub was was starting to fill up and the 2 staff were getting very busy so we decided to pay and leave. Not a great experience for my wife and l on our very first trip to Newquay which l must add is the most beautiful part of the country l have visited so far.

I will try this place again when l next visit, because we all have...

Was really looking forward to my meal this evening, and whilst the food was enjoyable everything else unfortunately wasn’t. One of the girls that served us was lovely but the gentleman who served us acted like he didn’t want to be there, it was very quick, dump and run. You could barely catch him long enough to order a drink the service from him was very disappointing. We were really looking forward to a roast but unfortunately they had already sold out which is no one’s fault, but I can’t lie I was gutted. But what my biggest disappointment was the fact that I wasn’t allowed a dessert! When we went up to order one as a staff member hadn’t been back for a good 10-15 mins we were then told no as the kitchen had closed! I wasn’t even offered the option to have a dessert before it closed. I have never been anywhere before that has closed the kitchen and not been able to do a dessert for customers that had already eaten. After that I just wanted to leave and just left a bad taste in mouth. I really hope that things are changed here as this could be a really lovely place. I currently work and have worked in the industry for years and never seen customers treated like this before, particularly not being able to provide desserts for the customers who have eaten with you. And after reading the good reviews you had I was so so looking forward to my meal. I hope for new customers that improvements are made. EDIT: I can’t seem to find how you reply so I will try this instead. Thank you to the owner for your response I very much appreciate it. Unfortunately I will not be able to take you up on your kind offer for dessert before we head home and we won’t be back in Newquay until November next year. But thank you very much for offering. I wish you and your business...
