OK...where to begin we have been there many times before last Friday night and were looking forward to the meal out. I asked for mussels as a main it was 16 quid as a starter and 24 for a main although on the website it was 22 for the main. My partner ordered the plaice at 28 quid...well this is what we got..we were told we would have to order bread for my mussels..which was a starter at best.. as an extra (first time ever I've had to do this) and potatoes as an extra for my partners plaice. It was like you were given half a meal and then had to assemble your own meal with expensive extras. As for the service..slow..no water offered..no wine poured..I even had to ask for a spoon ..the girl was inexperienced and not really bothered she didn't even ask if we were enjoying our meal. Oh and the wine was 34 quid for a Romanian pinot noir probably a 5er in a shop. So when we complained to the Scottish woman who presumably was the manager about it all she knocked the bread off and charged me a starter price..as it should have been for the mussels and gave us a free dessert which quite frankly was a mess and not worth the tenner they want out from you. Not great customer service... The overall impression is that they want every last penny out of you before the season ends in anyway possible. Its a shame that it has come to this as I have had some mussels and frites and bread ..all in one when I have visited before. I have seen other reviews similar to mine..this place is now completely overpriced and skimping on food. Do not visit at the end of season! .I will never go again and will now frequent the fish house in fistral bay for a proper fish meal..not a rip...
Read moreWe entered this restaurant and It took about 10min of standing by the bar area to get acknowledged, bar the 2 younger waitresses looking like a deer in headlights & middle aged woman, most likely the proprietor who apparently had lost a pen .. she had no interest in greeting us , didn’t even look up. there was an air of frustration and panic and . When We were finally acknowledged and asked if we could sit somewhere with a view & have a drink before dinner , we were told go up there, we’ll get to you , OK? ..“ …. this room with the supposed view , reminiscent of an old Cornwall , that not even the locals would want to set foot in. . We decided to go out to the other outdoor bit That looks over the harbour and down to The Boat house that was buzzing with happy people . And older couple had also just sat down and after another 10 min , they decided to leave, as clearly no one was going to pay any of us any attention, so we decided to leave as well and headed for the boat house … here we were greeted with a big smile , even though there was a long line , young people bring your dinner with a smile and the atmosphere was brilliant .
But if you fancy sitting in an outdated restaurant with garish glitter walls , moping staff , who pay you no attention. by all means go to the harbour...
Read moreWe have been to this restaurant many times over the years and after our recent meal we wondered why we don’t go more often. The owner is a friend but also would respect an honest review. First and foremost the food was exceptional and definitely the best we have had in recent times. It’s not a place that piles food on a plate and so once you taste the food can you only understand that it’s quality and not quantity. Every course (3) was delicious, presented on the plate beautifully and something different from the norm. It’s not a cheap place to eat and nowhere is anymore but the food stood up to scrutiny. I’m doing a review in depth because I was blown away by the food. The restaurant could do with refurbishing and the staff were not up to the standard of the food. It’s very difficult to get staff that stay around and Brexit hasn’t helped. The front of house should and must reflect the kitchen, which it doesn’t at the moment BUT the food was so so good that it just made up for the front of house and surely it’s all about the food.
So our review reflects the the food which was simply fantastic. Other aspects are sometimes very difficult to get right in a seaside town.
We absolutely endorse the great food, which is definitely the...
