We were really impressed with the location and ambience of this establishment, a real find for the view and outdoor seating. However, the food was a real letdown. To start, we had calamari which was good and crab bisque from the specials board. I love crab bisque but whenever I have had it in the past, it has been a rich, creamy, vibrant soup. This was thin with lumps of crab meat and not as tasty as expected. Annoyingly, our main course arrived whilst I was still eating my soup and the girl serving us hovered for a bit whilst I wolfed down the last few mouthfuls and shouted someone over to clear our plates so she could serve the main course. We felt rushed like they wanted us out as soon as possible even though we'd arrived and were seated early. She even took my husband's fork in her rush to clear the table leaving him without! The main courses, sadly, were even more of a let down. I ordered a whole crab and being honest, had no idea what to expect. I didn't expect however, that it would be slimy and for the brown meat to be indistinguishable. The white meat I could find was tasty but the texture of anything else was unpleasant. This could well be down to my lack of experience with eating whole crab but with a dressed crab, the brown meat is smooth and delicious, and I was expecting this rather than the slop that was inside the crab shell. It felt undercooked but as I said, this could be my lack of knowledge. However, the biggest let down was my husband's 6oz fillet steak at ÂŁ29.80 served simply with chips, mushrooms and tomatoes . He had requested it rare, we eat and cook a lot of steak and know what a rare steak should look like - cooked on the outside but red, not pink on the inside. After cutting into what can only be described as a medium to well done steak (fully cooked and barely even pink in the middle) he spoke to a server to explain it was not cooked as requested. She got a senior member of staff who came to inspect the steak and explained that the steak had been cooked as requested but then left to rest for fifteen minutes under the heat lamp. She said she would take it to the chef to ask his opinion. She returned very quickly with a new steak that when cut into was even more well done than the original steak. My husband is a very polite man and he did not have the heart to complain again and being hungry, dutifully ate the disappointing, overcooked lump of very expensive meat! A steak for this price, needs to be awesome! We have had many a fantastic meal in Newquay, sadly, this was by far not one of them. We shall not be returning or recommending the Boathouse to...

Before last month I didn't know that Street Food Establishments like this one existed and now I have been to my second.
The Boathouse is awesome! To be able to order different types of food from different stalls and eat them with your loved ones is amazing, it just covers everyone's appetite.
I ordered the Hallouminati Burger with Chips from one stall....Corn on the Cob from another and then my Fiancé ordered Fish and Chips from a different stall! Obviously you have to keep in mind that all your food might not come at the same time but on our visit there was like than 5 minutes which I think is really good. The Food tasted amazing, the corn on the cob was presented like a bouquet of flowers! Haha it was awesome. The burger was super tasty and my Fiancé enjoyed his Fish and Chips, it's his first time having locally caught fish so it was an experience.
The staff were very nice, we ordered everything through an app so we didn't speak to them very much but they seemed very nice.
The toilets were very clean.
Now on to the surrounding area..... It is beautiful!! We went on the nearby beach before we were going as at the top of my head The Boathouse opened at 5. When you sit in at the Boathouse you can sit near the docks which is a lovely view, it was actually really special and it was actually my Highlight of visiting Newquay for the first time. The only downside is that it makes your food go a bit colder quicker but I didn't mind that as the view was lovely!
If I ever go back to Newquay I will 100% go back and will be recommending it to all my friends and family if they visit Newquay as well.
(Also they do Desserts but we...
Read moreWe always visit the boathouse when in the area. However, thereâs now been a number of times where we travel down to find it closed. It would seem that they assume everybody does social media and has Facebook so knows of the days they are closed via that platform. Today, we saw from our apartment that there were people sat at the boathouse and music coming from it so, as you would have thought it was open. We walked down there wheeling our elderly mother in her wheelchair and there were no signs at any point on the route down either at the top of the hill or at the bottom of the hill indicating that they were closed. Someone who was sitting at one of the benches in the Boathouse said that they were closed until Friday. Iâm guessing that they were staff, or locals. When a place looks open and there are no signs to say it closed itâs reasonable to assume itâs open -and that if you go there you will be able to be served.
When we went for food at the weekend , there were more people vaping on the decking than not.
In the areas that are not designated for this.
It seems that in the absence of the lady, Iâm guessing the manager, who normally directs people to where they can vape it was just after for all.
Also, the lady who was serving in the coffee , caravan was sat there smoking a cigarette. It seems very much like thereâs one rule for staff and a different rule for customers.
I appreciate that your hours will close out of season but please have the common sense to realise that it would be sensible just to put a sign somewhere indicating that you are closed. We wonât bother returning when...
