I went to Sara’s Indian on 4th October because I was really craving some desi food. I was visiting as a tourist from London and really wanted to have some nice Indian food.
When I reached there, the restaurant wasn’t open yet — it was around 5 PM. I didn’t know they open at 5:30 because I’m not from that area. So, I waited outside. Then I called the number on Google, and a person, I think it was a lady — told me they would open at 5:30 pm.
While I was waiting, some men from the restaurant were looking at me through the window, and it made me feel a bit uncomfortable. After some time, one man opened the door, so I went inside. He looked older, maybe the owner or staff. The first thing he asked me was if I had cash. I said yes, I do have cash. Then he told me to wait for 10 minutes because they just opened and needed some preparation. I said no problem.
Then he told me where to sit — he said I couldn’t sit in the place where two people were sitting, and I had to sit where he wanted me to sit. I said okay, no problem. I also told him that I wanted to charge my phone, but actually, I didn’t charge it because I didn’t feel comfortable enough to do so.
After a few minutes, he came back again and asked me the same question — “Do you have cash?” I said yes, I already told you before, I have cash. I started feeling really awkward because he kept asking the same thing again and again.
There was another man, I think he was Bangladeshi and probably from Sylhet, because I could understand his way of speaking. He was actually very humble and nice. He told me kindly that if I wanted to charge my phone, I could give it at the reception, and they would help me. But I didn’t charge it, I just stayed seated.
After that, the old man came again, and when I asked him politely how long the food might take, he replied in a rude and arrogant way — like, “It will take time. What do you want?” I felt really disrespected. I told him that I came here for food, and I was waiting patiently, but his attitude was just not welcoming.
I felt ashamed and very uncomfortable, so I decided to leave. Then he just said, “Okay, okay, no problem, just go.” I really don’t think that’s how customers should be treated.
I want the restaurant owner to please look into this — maybe check the CCTV from that evening — and ask that person why he behaved that way. This is not fair to customers, especially people who come from outside and just want to enjoy their meal peacefully.
I’m posting this review a bit late because I got busy after my trip, but I always wanted to share it. I hope this helps improve how guests are treated...

Awful service, basic food. My partner and I went here for dinner and everything about it was diabolical.
For starters it’s bring your own booze and cash only. So that makes it inconvenient.
It took an hour for our food to arrive, and then when it did it arrive it was pretty much cold.
When we tried to give feedback the the person in charge outright wouldnt listen to us, and just kept cutting us off and saying ‘thank you sir’ without even taking on board any of our comments.
To be fair to us, it was a last ditch attempt to get food in Coniston as everywhere was rammed. But I would have rather made myself a sandwich then have had to go through this experience.
We were given our meal for free, but we didn’t ask for this to happen. The manager just wasn’t willing to listen to us, and clearly wanted us out even though we weren’t making a fuss. He was so...
Read moreWe have been using Sara’s Indian since it opened about 8/9 years ago. Every time the food is perfect and extremely tasty, very good value and the staff particularly Mia are very courteous, polite and efficient. I highly recommend if you are visiting Coniston to try one of their delicious meals. I can highly recommend the Chicken Chaat starter, it’s my favourite which is hard to say with all the delicious starters, onion bhajis another for example. There are lots of varied delicious mains to choose from too. The prices are very good and you take your own alcohol if you require alcohol or there are non alcohol drinks to purchase. We can’t wait till we visit again. Treat yourself to a taste sensation, you won’t be...
