Scalinis — Restaurant in England

Visited Stalinist today ,Friday 14 th October ( shocking) the food excellent..but…we sat down at 1/4 to 12 , Order finally taken , people arrived after us , served promptly ..I asked why? Waiting COD ( ok , I accept that) nearly half hour later ,I asked again and the waitress brought our order…mine was wrong..said so,politely, so was told no that’s what you ordered ..DONT think so ,cod bites!!!! So it went back ,my cod WITH PEAS( didn’t order peas) was put in front of me and away she went …..asked another lady could she sort it out please I hate peas …came back eventually,by then I just wanted to leave ……awful ,just awful experience…….WHAT REALLY TOOK THE P* was when regulars,came in said ,” usual please and they were served” …….will not be returning…too stressful .... Received a reply, stating I was a difficult person,because of past reviews...have only been twice and I gave a glowing...

We went today for a late lunch and I've got to say it was a very disappointing experience considering the quality of the food on previous visits! We arrived just after 3pm and it was very unclear as to if you could still sit in to eat. We ordered 2 fish specials plus a can of pop, we had to clarify every part of our order and never received the pop which luckily I could live without as this was in addition to the hot drink that came with our meal. The food when it came was only what I can describe as average, the chips were tasteless, there was very little fish in the batter and the peas were hard. On previous occasions I have found scalinis to be exceptional in their quality and service however unfortunately this wasn't the case today. I've been using this place for years and have no idea why I had never done a review before.

At the front is the take-away. In the past I would have put it amongst the best Fish and Chips in the area but not so much now. I understand the economic difficulties facing these stores at the moment but the standard here has undoubtedly declined.

At the rear is the restaurant which I'm guessing has around 80 covers. I was there at a little before midday which not that long ago was a time when it may be necessary to queue to get a seat in the restaurant.

The menu is more restricted than it used to be. Haddock, Cod, Sausage, Steak Pie, Fish Bites, Chips and, Mushy Peas. That's all I can remember no Plaice or anything at all interesting. The service was quickish and...
