Awful Experience at The Six Medals – Friday 12th September
On Friday 12th September my husband, our two children, my mam and I came for a meal at The Six Medals. What should have been a nice family evening turned into a complete disaster.
After waiting over 45 minutes for our food, 4 out of 5 meals came out with fries that were stone cold. Not lukewarm — cold. We kept the kids’ meals just to avoid another meltdown because they’d already waited far too long. My mam and I had to take ours back.
Charlotte, the manager, was the only saving grace. She agreed straight away that the chips weren’t acceptable and sent them back, promising fresh ones. But instead of fresh, we were given the exact same chips, just thrown back into the fryer. They were limp, greasy and inedible. When we refused those, the waitress (who was lovely) took them back again.
The real shock came when Charlotte told us what had happened in the kitchen. She explained she had already told the chefs (Harry and Lewis) the chips were cold, and their response was “no they aren’t.” She had to physically break one open in front of them to prove it. The fact the chefs argued with their manager rather than fixing the problem is disgraceful.
After another 15 minutes, we finally got plates back with slightly warmer chips, but by then my gravy had been taken off, and the chicken burgers were ice cold after sitting around in the kitchen for nearly half an hour. At that point, the food was ruined and the kids were completely unsettled.
Charlotte admitted there had been multiple complaints that night, which doesn’t surprise me in the slightest. She offered us free drinks or desserts, but honestly, after the stress and poor food, we just wanted to leave.
The service staff did their best, but the kitchen was an absolute joke. Rude, lazy, and clearly not bothered about serving food fit to eat. For a family meal out, this was one of the worst experiences we’ve ever had. We...
Read moreWe booked a table for 8 on Christmas day at 3pm, we all arrived at 3pm and stood outside until around 4pm at no point did any member of staff come out to give everyone standing in the que a update on what was going on, eventually I spoke to the manager who blamed all the issues on all the previous guests for staying to long. We eventually got sat down and we all said we were ready for our starters (all food was pre booked) after around 45 mins we still had not recived our starter so I once again had to find the manager who was shocked to hear we still had not recived our starters, when the servers started to bring our starters out we were only then road that they did not like the look of the prawns that was left so we ended up with a couple of wafer thin slivers of salmon a small pot of seafood sauce and some salad, by this time the assistant manger came over to me and let us know the day was on them and I confirmed that she also ment that includes our drinks and she said yes, at this poi t she evan took another drinks order from is and said she would bring it straight aver we never recived that round of drinks. we then went to the carvery to collect our food and to be honnest that was not great either, we all said we would take our deserts as a takeout as it was neally 640pm. I went over to confirm how the money we had spent on drinks was going to be refunded and then the manager said he never said he was going to cover our drinks just the food, eventually he agreed to refund the £70 I had spent on drinks that day, we were not the only people to recive this bad service but I think was the majority of the people who booked. I would avoid using this pub for anything that will entire a large crowd and especially that needs any kind of organisation as I feel the management are unable to organise a p1ss up...
Read moreFurther visit 05.04.25 Didn't have the meal that I asked for so ended up going with the macaroni cheese which was tasteless and I'm not quite sure what the reason for bbq sauce to be added as a 'drizzle' over the top was for, it is not needed and it's not very pleasant. Would I have it again....absolutely not. On a positive note my mum enjoyed the steak and ale pie. Updated review 18.05.24 Gave the benefit of the doubt and decided to try again and give a second visit - much improved this time around. Scampi was good. The only issue this time was parking as some sort of event was on and the car park was cordoned off to accommodate this so we had to park a bit away which wasnt ideal for my mum as the arthritis in her legs makes it difficult for her to walk too far. Barring that a much better experience here than our last visit 👍
I so wanted the give this place a good food review but alas today I could not. We ordered the philly steak and the peri peri chicken baguettes....the peri peri filling lacked any real taste despite having the one 🌶 image on the menu and the chicken was a bit grey, needless to say I picked a fair bit of it out 😕 the steak was apparently okay but could have been sliced a little thinner and the baguettes were quite dry as the filling was lacking at both ends of the baguettes. Credit to the manager who was chatty and friendly, lovely, cozy decor, good atmosphere with a nice looking garden area with lots of outdoor seating available, masses of parking spaces. Shame about the food but saying that I'd go back to give a different dish a try - hopefully this was a one off...
