Never been a particularly big fan of this chain. But I think this visit has put me off for good.
The staff were fine, tried their best to help, but unfortunately were let down by the lack of menu; I mean, the menu had a good choice, but none of it was actually available. That isn't the fault of the staff who gamely tried their best. World's biggest coffee chain not being able to provide the ingredients to make coffee is a bit of a problem.
Then there is the product: the coffee is not exactly world-beating, and most of the choices are sweet and sickly. The grub is some of the blandest ever tasted. Portion sizes are straight out of a Charles Dickens novel, and that brings you up to the price. Which is definitely the worst thing about the place. Because I don't think £41 for 3 small coffees, 3 sandwiches and a couple of cakes is good value. I know things aren't cheap these days, but come on. The rival chain is pricey enough, but I reckon I could have spent a good tenner less in there, and probably had a better experience. Moral of the story I suppose is that big chains are maybe best avoided.
If you have money to burn, enjoy music that would grace any lift in the world, and don't mind eating/drinking stuff that you will definitely never remember, then give it a try. Otherwise, find an independent cafe and enjoy some proper...
Read moreConflicted review this... I was thinking of three stars but there are some pluses and some things that aren't especially the fault of those running this Starbucks Franchise... The pluses are it is easy to park and the cafe is spacious with plenty of room between chairs. The staff were friendly and polite, also another plus. The downsides... The tables could have done with a good clean and even when there was a cleanup the used stuff was just taken to a table and left there. It was all just a bit sticky and grubby. There's a Starbucks just a bit further down the A69 which seems smaller but seems cleaner. The coffee was standard Starbucks so if you have been to one before that is what you will get. The toasted marshmallow hot chocolate was a rip off... The poster makes it look like it's toasted marshmallow but it's actually foamed cream sprinkled with toasted 'marshmallow' powder. Very misleading advertising I'd say but obviously that's Starbucks and not the...
Read moreBought a single, regular latte from the drive through on route home 200 miles away. Didn't check the price and just tapped my card to pay at the time. Later found out they'd charged me a whopping £8.10! Tried chasing them up online as I thought they must have overcharged, but they're final response said "...Like many retailers, product prices may vary slightly depending on location, which reflects the cost of doing business in that location." Total rip off. Either I was overcharged and they will not refund or their prices are crazy for a simple drink. Won't go to Starbucks ever again: there are many other coffee shops to choose from that offer much better value and treat customers...
