A number of us went here from work. We hadn't booked but the place was empty so there was no trouble fitting us in. However, because we hadn't booked they said we had to have a set menu. We agreed to this against my better judgement and the ten of us sat down to eat.
Roughly half of us had Menu B and the rest had the vegetarian Menu D. Menu B had starters that were a mix of chicken, beef and duck, served with vegetables and lots of spice. There was also fishcake, which tasted very much like prawn. The main courses had chicken, beef and prawn dishes served with egg fried rice and jasmine rice. None of us are fans of prawns and these ones looked particularly unappetising and went untouched. Such is the downside of a set menu. We then had to wait an exceedingly long time for the desserts. In fact, we had to remind them twice that we were still waiting for them. It was fairly simple - ice cream served with lychees. There was no explanation for the protracted wait. Overall I would describe the food as adequate. I would have preferred to order my own meal rather than have a set menu, not least because the mains were about half the price.
The place itself was pleasant enough with much Thai ornamentation. The gents' toilets were out of order so we had to use the disabled, which was actually an advantage because they were closer. The service started off well, with much polite bowing from the staff. However as the evening went on it gradually got worse. Apart from the extraordinary delay for the ice cream I also had to remind them about a drink I had ordered, and even had to ask them for some cutlery when they had forgotten to bring me any. Little things perhaps but at £33 (including two J2Os) I couldn't justify the service charge that they added to the bill.
I doubt that I would choose to go back...
Read moreThis is the best Thai restaurant nin the UK that i have come across. And i know authentic Thai food with the typical short cuts that the restauranteurs make. This is the real deal!
This is not the first time I have been impressed with this restaurant. I visited the Chapel Allerton restaurant 7 years ago and was equally impressed.
The food is brilliantly cooked by the owner/family who is himself Thai. The6 have a transparent kitchen. It is cooked from scratch to order. The ingredients are fresh and correct.
This was perfect in every way. The seevice waa very very good. The orice was fair.
Every mirsel and mouthful was delicious. It 8s now foing to be booked for eqxh visit to Leeds ir Harrogate. As aomeone who has soent a significant amount of time in Thailand, i can say thisnis equal if not superior to wha5 i have uad in Thailand. So very very good.
So what could be improved? Water needs to be put on the table as a matter of course. We requested this but it was forgotten. When you have booked you should be ahown dirextly to your table not expected to wait to be seated and handed a menu. The view of the street needs to be obsxured a bit nore as it isnt a food view to see pwople walking past and looming in as you eat. (On the side road). A small scoop.of.ice cream and or chocolate and or digestive drink should be laid on as part of the end or fiven with the bill.
Overall very very very impressive. I loved it. I will return. I highly...
Read moreI have eaten a lot of Thai food throughout the years, and also eaten in Thailand; unfortunately this is not "Authentic Thai Cuisine." My dish contained no lemon grass , galangal , Thai basil or Thai baby pea aubergine. There was no distinct flavour of fish sauce or true depth of flavour. It was literally diced chicken , green curry paste and coconut milk passed off as 'Authentic Thai Green Curry." You could probably make this one up yourself or buy the equivalent from Lidl. I believe the only Authentic Thai element was the waitress. However this said, the staff were extremely attentive , kind and courteous. The ambience was fantastic along with the service, unfortunately anybody who knows real Thai Cuisine should think again. The Thai Green curry was served with Italian Bazil, which is a "true example" of what this place uses for their "Authentic Thai ingredients" claiming to be the real deal. It probably was the real deal years ago but now...
