It has been a long time—years in fact—since I’ve had a meal so disappointing. Not to sound like a drama queen, but my girlfriend and I have been surviving on BBQ pringles and hummus for the past few days so even an average meal would have satisfied us. Alas, the pad thai we had was bland and lacked any authenticity. The frustrating thing, at least from my perspective, is how clear it is that little effort was made. Good flavour comes with high effort and this pad thai tasted like a few plain ingredients thrown in together and then some spices chucked on top at the end—something a uni student would make after getting home from a night out. OK, ok—that’s a tad mean—but it’s not right to knowingly serve up very low-effort, low-quality food.
This leads me onto a question: how is this place rated 4.9/5? It is possible they are more adept with other cuisines and dishes, but the reality is that pad thai is probably in the top 5 most popular Asian dishes in the UK, so if you call yourself a pan-asian restaurant and can’t serve even an average pad thai, well, I don’t really know what to tell you lol.
We did have the “KFC” starter which is essentially Korean popcorn chicken. This was OK, but needless to say wasn’t good enough to elevate this dinner from “deeply disappointing” status.
P.S. The waiter was a nice guy—polite, etc., but I still cannot help but feel I’ve been a tad ripped off…
Second P.S. I took a third pad thai home for my mum (ordered before trying it myself). She’s eating it now while I write this review. She...
Read moreCame for the first time last night, I made a reservation for 8 pm but didn't get seated until 8:45 pm in their defence it was busy for only having 2 FOH staff in and the upstairs doesn't have any seating (which is a wasted opportunity in my opinion).
The atmosphere was good to start but by 9 pm/9:15, the music was completely turned off, leaving us feeling rushed to leave.
The cocktails were average at best, the lychee cocktail had a weird aftertaste and the Mojito had little bits of mint floating around like it was shaken and not stirred. The beer was bottled so no complaints there.
The food was really good, the curry was spicy and had loads of flavour but the fact you have to buy your rice separately on most of their meals is a con.
I paid £13.50 for my curry then had to pay an extra £3.50 for the rice and the same for my partners' dish. Spending £7 extra for something that should be on the plates was a bit of a shock.
So by the end of the meal we had a starter each a main and rice & 2 drinks, each came to just over £70. For the area and what you get, I feel it was a little too expensive. If they reassess their pricing I...
Read moreI recently visited this place with a friend, and it was such a pleasant experience. The ambience is very good and the staff are incredibly considerate, making us feel right at home. As for the food, everything we tried was amazing. I particularly loved the chicken gyoza and dal makhani with jasmine rice—I'm still craving more now! We also enjoyed the lemonade, tawa paratha, and tangy mango special chili chicken, all of them were delicious. If you're in town and craving something Asian or Indian, this place...
