The Buckingham Chantry Chapel, the oldest building in Buckingham, has a rich history as a hospital, chantry chapel, and school, before becoming the property of the National Trust. It was originally established in the late 12th century as part of St John's Hospital for the poor and infirm. Later, it was converted into a chantry chapel and then became the home of the Royal Latin School. The National Trust acquired the chapel in 1912 and now operates a second-hand bookshop, tea coffee and cake, not much to look at on the inside really, still a very interesting building. This is a 15th century chapel with Norman influence in the structure which was restored by Gilbert Russell in 1875 and is now owned by the National Trust.I believe it is the oldest building in Buckingham once having been a school, hospital and church. The staff are very friendly and will happily tell you about the history of the building. Parking is non-existent so you will have to find somewhere to park nearby...
