This restaurant is shockingly bad - it almost felt like an episode of Fawlty Towers. Beautiful location let down by shocking service and terrible food.

Full review:

We arrived at around 3pm (well after peak time) and asked for a table. The inside of the restaurant was empty but we were told it was all 'reserved' (note: the inside remained empty for our entire meal).

We were told that we can take any table outside as it became available. We found a family who was ready to leave and stood waiting for their table whilst they got their bill. The family waited 25 minutes for a server to come take their payment. 25 minutes!!!! This should have been our first red flag - they were completely unable to get the attention of the wait staff whatsoever.

The family told us that other people had left the restaurant without paying because the staff were taking 30 minutes just to come collect payment.

Finally we got our table - which had not been cleaned properly. During a pandemic the tables should really be cleaned. After 10 minutes of asking for someone to clean the table, someone finally did.

Throughout the whole meal we had to actively seek out the wait staff and nag them to come take our drink order, our food order, give us the bill etc. It felt like a constant fight and ruined any sort of relaxing mood by the sea.

The restaurant also has no paper menus, you need to go walk to the front of the restaurant to view the menu. Such a stupid idea that makes ordering feel like a chore.

Anyway, we thought it would all be worth it because the menu sounded very good and there were nice reviews online.

The bruschetta to start was actually very nice.

The wait times for food were extremely slow however.

The main course did not come all at once. My friend had a steak and it arrived 10 minutes before any other food did. It was ordered as 'medium' doneness, but when he cut into it , it was completely well done.

The male waiter then argued that my friend misunderstood what medium and well done meant - this was absurd. There was 0 red inside the steak , it was completely grey. This was well done.

Finally the waiter took away and replaced the steak with one cooked properly.

Another member of the party ordered the lamb. This too was cooked completely well done and was grey inside. A real let down and waste of good ingredients.

Another friend ordered the fish finger sandwich, which was literally scraps of batter in huge chunks of bread. There was almost 0 fish in this (the same as said in some other reviews I have read) and appeared to just be the fallen scraps of batter from when they cook fish and chips. A real let down.

However, a friend ordered the mussels and liked them. I am told the chips were really nice too.

Overall this restaurant is a walking disaster. The only thing it has going for it is the location. Other than that - there is no reason to come here. The food is beyond lackluster and embarassing, and the service is absolutely abysmal.

If you are interested in fighting for badly cooked food and begging the servers for any kind of help - this is the...

So just got back from having my birthday lunch here. I wanted to come here as last time we came the food was amazing and we were not disappointed at all. I would recommend to book as they were full for the evening but we were happy to settle for lunch just to be able to come here. So the staff are super lovely, friendly and helpful. The food was once again utterly amazing. I had the seafood risotto and sticky toffee pud. My son who is as fussy as they come had the children's burger and polished it off which is unusual. They got his peas mixed up and it was absolutely no trouble for them to switch it for the beans and smiles all round, no inconvenience at all. I would definitely recommend this place. Bi folding doors wide open, with ample spacing between tables for social distancing. The view of the sea as you eat, sound of the waves and just the perfect birthday for me. You can eat outside too but I couldn't fault it at all. Highly recommended. Food is...

Had lunch here today and I will never come back. To start with we where served the smallest fish portion I have ever had when ordering fish and chips (see picture) then we had to wait for the cutlery to be brought to the table after we had our plates already. The batter was soggy, the haddock was tasteless. The only good thing was the tartar sauce, seemed home made. There is a window to the kitchen where you can see the people prepare the food and to my dismay the lady putting the plates together has been licking her own fingers when touching the food, several times. She washed her hands 2 or 3 times in the 45 minutes we spent there and in between she would put bits of food in her mouth and lick her fingers. Not hygienic and quite shocking, actually. Won't be coming here again.

Walking the coastal path....in the cornish drizzle of persistent rain I made it to the usually vibrant village of Cawsand. However, post lockdown this was a quiet sad place bereft of visitors, noise and joy. Thankfully, The Bay was open and luckily a seat outside under an overhanging roof was my prize. All of a sudden people came from all directions and the place was transformed. Nice food coming out to the few tables under cover and even hardy walkers were sat drinking their coffee...in the rain. They really could do with a marquee to protect their customers. And, some brighter and happier waiters/waitresses. Ah well, May 17th next week. The next stage back to some type of normal!! Cawsand, like most places needs it......Nice views though!!
