Wonderful place and a lucky find. I went with my father after looking up that The Birdcage is a dog friendly, Italian (mostly pizza) restaurant with vegan cheese options. As stated on their website; the service was friendly, the manager was very attentive and rechecked with me 3 times to make sure that my pizza dish was completely vegan, changing my toppings at last moment to suit my needs without any fuss to make sure that I was satisfied. The veg platter was delightful as well, and with a choice of chilli oil or tabasco on top of the pizza really adds a nice kick. The interior (and toilets) were very clean and well loved, with a sort of vintage style to the decor and musical classics from the 80s - 90s really set a nice jovial tone for the evening meal. The food arrived quickly and the drinks were not a rip off. Highly recommend, can't wait to return to this lovely little gem of good...
Read moreWe were very disappointed with this restaurant. We waited 1hr 15 mins for our main course to arrive. After our starter we asked were our main course was, then a few minutes later we were handed the bill! We explained we had not even eaten our main course yet, they appogied and said they would take the drinks off our bill. Wow, 3 soft drinks so generous! We asked for more off the bill after waiting so long for the main, which they did. We had cinema tickets booked, which meant we had 5 minutes to wolf down a whole pizza and pasta meal. We were given take away boxes, but this really took the edge off our evening out. We felt like the waiting staff really did not care and did not apologise as we left the restaurant. Really poor service, and the pasta, ham and leek dish was very tasteless. Would not rush back here...
Read moreVery disappointing lunch. Ordered a 'summer special' : a prawn, thin crust pizza along with an additional topping of anchovies. My daughter ordered the 'King Athelstan'. My pizza was extremely below expectations. I was expecting some reasonably sized, juicy prawns. Given the billing 'summer special' you expect something err..special ..not frozen shrimps. (I come from a fishing family background so I know what the difference is!). What I got were some sorry looking shrimps. A very sparse few anchovies were thrown on top. My daughter's pizza was slightly better but the pepperoni were very sorry looking 10p piece sized salty discs. We have been frequenting Bird Cage for years but the standard this lunchtime does not encourage me esp. at £14 for a limp pizza. The £2 on top for a couple of anchovies sealed my...
