I'll start with the good things. It was very clean, the coffee was good and the staff were friendly. I ordered the Big Buttery Breakfast at £8.25. I only got 2 sausages, each cut into thirds. In hindsight, that was fine because the quality of the sausage was poor, they were among the worst I've ever had. They were pasty and didn't taste great either. There weren't any redeeming qualities. The bacon wasn't great either, too salty and quite tough. My eggs were reasonable but not amazing, again I've had much better eggs. On reflection though, I'd probably say my eggs were poor, in comparison to what I've had at other places. I didn't eat the beans as they were salty and didn't taste good. Beans (and tinned tomatoes) should be in separate dishes for the customer to pour on the breakfast. I ordered hash browns as I omitted mushrooms. The hash browns were pale and very flaky. The tinned tomatoes were tasty though and I much prefer tinned tomatoes on a breakfast. The toast looked good, crisp and well cooked, but oddly it was floppy. A disappointing breakfast. I've had much better for not much more money. Increase the price of the breakfasts so better ingredients can be used. Would I come here again? For breakfast, no. But the cobs and cakes look good. Would I recommend here? Not for breakfast.

6.9/10, 3.45/5. Jacket potato w/ butter, tuna, salad & cajun chicken was great. Cajun chicken was flavourful. Salad was good, but just a recommendation to add olive oil or some dressing. The jacket potato was good but i think needed a bit more butter. Portion sizes were huge. Latte was nice. Helpful staff. Atmosphere was great, felt local & authentic. 9.8 GBP was worth it (also had an extra Walker’s Ready Salted), tho maybe some slight enhancement w/ more butter, salad dressings & oil; as the jacket potato was a bit dry. Few days later tried the beef wrap w/ cheese & salad in the wrap which was nice. Beef was tender & delicious, crispy salad, would be greater if cheese was melted. Despite the place having a 5/5 hygiene rating, 1 thing to point out, staff were handling food without gloves & touching random stuff in the kitchen from the food to other cutlery & surfaces - would be great if staff had gloves. At least i didn’t feel ill. Also found this flat thing that was white in my 2nd latte. The latte & beef wrap w/ cheese & salad was ~6 GBP which was worth it

Great place, great owners. We are a little bais as we do know them if fact my wife used to work with one of them, that said; the food is always freshly cooked and hot. The will do whatever it takes to make you happy and they make occasion cakes, we have tried their Angle Cakes and they are good. All in all nothing bad to say about the owners, food or establishment. Christmas menu is up, Stocking Stuffer, super tasty and about the size of my head. Winner Winner Christmas Dinner.

I visited Derby and found The Buttery, just another cafe? No, the cafe fare for sit down is predominately breakfast orientated, great quality, very good value, although full english is typically priced at £11, everything else like baps was nearer the £5/6 mark, fot a giant bap anyway. We had oat cakes which they flexed with veg options but the do veggie too. We took a salad box for take away, oh my goodness, what value and the varity, it was tuna, iceberg, onion, pepper, jalapeno, a boiled egg and more. £6:50 what tremendous value. People are lovely, they clearly own tge business and will look after you. Takeaway breakfast items flowed too, its got a strong reputation. If i lived here, it would be a traditional bfast...
