Having eaten here before and enjoyed it we re-visited to celebrate mum's birthday on a Sunday. It was quiet upon arrival but filled up rapidly. I ordered the French onion soup to start and as soon as it arrived my heart sank. The onions were not caramelised leaving the soup looking pale and anaemic with a cheesy crouton placed on top, not finished under a grill with lashings of tasty Gruyere as it should be. It would have made a very tasty onion gravy to serve with bangers and mash or toad in the hole but it was not French onion soup. The main course arrived and I'd opted for the roast sirloin of beef. While I was pleased to see the meat was cooked beautifully the portion size was huge and overwhelming. We had to chase down the waitress to ask for condiments. To me, a yorkshire pudding is a vessel created to contain gravy which spills out once cut into but it was empty and dry. The gravy that was on the plate definitely came from a packet and was the same as what was served with the chicken, pork and pie. There was also simply not enough of it for the food on the plate. A separate gravy boat would have been nice. The stuffing was probably nice when it was fresh but mine had dried out and was rubbery. The other vegetables were OK with the exception of the red cabbage which was overly sweet (6/7 of us never ate it which surely should send a message back to the kitchen?) While I have previously thoroughly enjoyed the regular menu, I would not recommend the Sunday roast.

This has been my F&C restaurant of choice in Grimsby/Cleethorpes for this past 7 years. But no longer, after a birthday meal there. Can you believe the colour of the haddock (see pic)…? I asked a friend what he thought the pic represented. He said "Beef Wellington…?" I said "No, it is the Coach House's idea of how to cook haddock". He replied "they are clearly skimping on changing the oil". I said "I don't know about that, but with all the profits they make I reckon they could invest in more oval plates, since a jumbo haddock overhanging the plate does not look good" (see again pic) And if all that was not enough, blow me if they have not now introduced a 10% service charge…! (To pay for new oil and oval plates?) Anyway, this event has driven me back to the most famous F&C restaurant in Grimsby/Cleethorpes. Steel's Corner House. Their jumbo haddock is £1.50 cheaper, and is cooked in fresh oil, and fits the plate. The chips are proper chips, and not the wedges that we get at the Coach House these days. (See pic ) And best of all? No sneaky 10% service charge at Steel's.

Excellent food and service, 5* Fish and chips - regular ÂŁ15 comes with curry sauce and mushy peas, very fresh and the chips are properly deep fried, I'd have loved to see what the Jumbo portion looks like. The Lincolnshire braised beef was again very well cooked and seasoned, alongside this was a great selection of vegetables, a large Yorkshire and sausage meat stuffing, gravy was a little rich but I'm guessing it had a good splash of red wine - ÂŁ17.95 We had some bread while we wait which was freshly baked, the whipped butter was a great addition. Altogether the meal (bread appetiser, 2 x fish and chips, braised beef and drinks (3 soft half pints) was ÂŁ66 including 10% service charge (which is well deserved as service is excellent) Online booking is easy so we will definitely be returning, the only slight issue we had was parking, clearly its very popular so the car park was full to the point it's hard to manoeuvre, we did find street parking just next to the restaurant so no biggy.

The worst experience in a restaurant ever! And that’s before we got to eat food. Booked a table for 6 plus a baby using their online booking system. On the day, we received two phone calls. The first in the morning from the manager/owner explaining that their licence does not cover children after 7pm but on this occasion they will allow it. But only if they were “well behaved” and didn’t move from the table. Ok, We said, not a problem. Bit surprised as marketed as “family friendly”. Second phone call from a member of staff an hour before arrival, leaving a voicemail to say that we are a table of 7 and the guidelines are 7 max. Confused, We tried to call back 4 times to understand what the issue was. Couldn’t get through. Assuming everything was ok, as we were a party of 7, we showed up for our table booking. On arrival I was told that they could only accommodate 6 and not the baby. I asked for two tables instead. Ideally next to each other. At this point, the staff member said she needed to speak to her manager. The manager came to the front desk and informed us that we can only have a table of 6 and “she was fed up with people like us trying it on” and that she informed my wife on the phone in the morning that it was a table of 6 only (which was not the case, hence the second phone call and also us turning up). Taken aback, We said that she was being quite rude and we surely can find a solution, i.e two tables which then led to a gasp and eye roll and a full on verbal attack. We were told that We were a citizen of the UK so therefore I should know that it is 6 people to a table. I was not aware that this was the case, and I’m sure there are many others not aware. I believed it was a max of two households, but I accepted not being aware of the table limit and asked again if we could have two tables but instead of trying to assist, she then sarcastically said she would print out the Government Guidance for me. Apparently we should also “pay more attention to the news”. She then went on to say that she was not taking any risks with her business, which I said was totally understandable as a business owner myself and we would be happy with two tables but rather than make that happen she then went on to say that “we had taken her away from her friend she was dining with on her day off”. We of course did no such thing. Her staff member obviously did that as they could not resolve our table dilemma. This comment was then followed with a peculiar rant about how she had not been paid for 15 weeks and “people like me” are coming in and trying it on when we should know better. Again, we are a “UK citizen and should take responsibility”. Gobsmacked was not the word. I didn’t know what she meant by “people like us”. Was she referring to our ethnicity? Our social status or “class”? She talked to my wife and I like we were beneath her. At this point, when she continued to look for a second table, my 11 year old asked us if we could leave because of the ‘aggressive woman’. We told her that we would be leaving and never returning. We were recommended this place by a few people and we have a second property in cleethorpes. I don’t care how nice the food might be, I wouldn’t spend a penny in here with someone like her running/owning it. You come to a restaurant for the experience as much as the food and I can only think the pandemic has hit her hard or that she was just having a bad day but nevertheless, there was no excuse for her poor attitude and customer service. If she speaks to customers like that, I can’t imagine how the staff are treated. I hope they don’t experience the same treatment. If you are “people like us” namely a nurse and social worker working through COVID, a business owner and a journalist all arriving without chips on OUR shoulders avoid this place at all costs. Go to Figs restaurant instead. Gorgeous food and...

This is my review of the coach House field house road December 1st 2019. This is my first experience of it. So arrived at coach House Sunday 1st December, upon arrival the car park was full so partner had to park elsewhere, I took this as a good sign it being busy and all. Anyway met my mum n sis and walked in with my mum and sis and partner. It was lovely clean and very festive inside. Mum went to let them know we had arrived when we got there, mum checked about meals the lady said, oh no Christmas meals on a Sunday, mum was upset by this and I was shocked, mum explained to the lady a deposit had been paid, then the lady seemed stressed out by this but she told us we could have that. We got sat at the only table that appeared to be available to us right near the bar, actually a bad place to sit I have health issues as does mum, I couldn't get straight so the table was moved back by 2 lady's who worked there which was more accommodating. Another lady who worked in there tried to take our menus away saying Christmas lunch wasn't on, mum explained again deposit had been paid. We had order taken for drinks and then food. The starters arrived I had garlic mushrooms they was amazing, partner had same, mum had pate, sis had another we all enjoyed starters, ordered 2nd drink Our mains came shortly after sis had beef which she loved, we all had the turkey with bacon wrapped around it and stuffing inside, I didint like the main the best things on the plate was the 1 slice of carrot and the potato, the turkey was OK, but nothing to get excited over, the bacon wasn't great undrr done to my taste, the vegetables was green beans, snap peas, cabbage mixed, baby sprouts, cabbage was best cooked, sprouts where again to undercooked to mine and my partners taste, stuffing was too soft strange taste I had 2 bites of it left the rest, the chipolata on the plate was also not great it was smoked and a wierd, flavour mum didint like it either. My sister ate all her beef stew, wish I'd of ordered it but maybe another time. We ordered deserts me and mum had lemon cheesecake, partner had sticky toffee pudding and sis had cheese and crackers. The deserts where truly amazing, honestly that lemon cheesecake was the best lemon one I have ever tried, mum loved it, partner loved his sticky toffee pudding, best ever, and sis loved her selection of cheese and crackers. The waiter was lovely, the lady's from the kitchen where lovely the girl who brought us our food was lovely. Staff where good overall place was warm. Things that let it down, was definitely the mix up at the beginning, and where we got sat. What made it better was the starter and the pudding. Would return to try a different main. We had 8 drinks between us,4 starters, mains and deserts, food total including deposit...

Three of us ate at the Coach House today (21st December). The staff were helpful and efficient as usual. Many thanks to them.

The food was tasty, nicely prepared and served in good time, and, on hot plates, where this was necessary.

We tried the starters, as it was a special day for us. However, we were disappointed, in that the contents had changed noticeably, since we last had the same dishes. This is a shame.

The Homemade Chicken Liver Pate was soft and moose-like; unlike the firm slice experienced before. Included, were two slices of lightly toasted bread (Brioche?), when one slice would have been more than adequate.

The Scottish Smoked Salmon Terrine, came with Horseradish Crème Fraiche; the latter lacking any noticeable flavour of horseradish. It just added more soft gloopy texture to the terrine. Overall, the portion size of this particular starter, was too large. A better variety of beetroot, with more leaves, would have been preferable. What happened to simple, sliced, smoked salmon?

The Homemade Vegetable Wellington is a tasty, well presented dish. Unfortunately, the pastry casing was far too heavy and filling. Perhaps a lighter puff pastry casing, or, a reduced portion size, might be more palatable, to those that do not have the gastronomic capacity of a navvy!

We love al dente (not raw/hard or soft/mushy) vegetables. But not everybody does. It might be a nice touch, to offer slightly softer vegetables, for those that have this preference.

Overall, we considered the meals reasonable value for money. Using similar ingredients, the dishes could be much improved, in our opinion.

Finally,...
