We stayed at The Commodore for a 2 night break in December, so was expecting cold weather. We were able to park in one of the 5 spaces available at the hotel and was aware that parking was limited. The reception desk is stuck on the end of the bar, the bar was busy and my wife struggled to check in. Be warned, don't attempt to check in with your luggage, you will struggle. The room was up on the top floor and the lift was out of action. I feel if you have a lift, it should be operational, this one looks like it's been out of order for a while. They do advise on the website that the lift doesn't work. The room was very spacious and had everything in it. We have stayed in other Greene King establishments that were much better presented though. In the room is 1 medium radiator, and 1 small one in the bathroom with a towel radiator. Needless to say, the bedroom is quite cool and doesn't get very warm. There used to be 2 rads in the bedroom but one has been removed leaving a mess in its place, holes in the wall, rusty pipes etc. We had an evening meal. There was no attention to detail, the Hunters Chicken came without bacon, I had Scampy which came without bread and butter. We said to a server who said she'd check with the chef but was sure it would have been on there. After several minutes the proprietor asked if everything was okay, we explained and he said he'd take the meals away and get them refired straight away, he apologised. 15 mins later the meals arrived as described. Thank you. Our night was aweful. The hotel didn't go quiet until 1.30am with people chatting loudly and doors constantly slamming. Breakfast the next morning was okay. But the water in the hot drink flasks was luke warm and 1 was empty. There was no bread for toast and the orange juice had run out. Let's see what day 2 is like. Returned after a day out, no room service, so had to go to the bar to ask for a toilet roll, tea, milk etc. Fingers crossed breakfast goes without any hiccups and more importantly our night is better than last night. Our night was much better, clearly Saturday nights are busy and noisy. You've been warned. Breakfast was spot on today. So finally to sum up, it wasn't all bad, the bed was very comfortable, the room was nice enough, just a bit cool, the view was great and it's a nice part of the country to visit.

We stayed at the hotel for our wedding anniversary and it wasn't particularly good. We went down for dinner at about 8.45pm and was told that they finish serving food at 9pm. We ordered our food and it arrived reasonably quickly . Unfortunately, the new potatoes on the salmon main meal were not hot enough to melt the butter and the sauce on the salmon was not particularly tasty. The sirloin steak had been cut quite thin and although I asked for medium rare it was closer to medium. The chips were quite good although they did seem like they were frozen chips. We did tell (I think she was the owner or manager of the hotel) that the food really wasn't too good. She actually agreed with me that it wasn't particularly good and she said (without me asking) that she would not charge us for the food. We had both had starters which were reasonably good. Although the food was "free", it did really take the enjoyment out of our visit. Generally, the hotel looked dated and in need of upgrading/decorating with very limited parking space. Our room (on the 2nd floor) was adequate for the night and it had great views looking out to the sea. The room was OK for space and quite clean although certain places had been missed/overlooked. The bed was comfortable (for me) although the base of the bed was about 6 Inches longer than the mattress. The pillows (for me) were hard and quite uncomfortable. I know some people will find them extremely comfortable. Please take note that these are my options on this visit only. I am not in any way trying to make decisions or choices for anyone else whos stay might be considerably different to what we experienced.

My daughter & I checked in at the Commodore pub to spend a night in a twin bedded room in the hotel. The staff were friendly & helpful even though it was full of people of all ages from couples to groups of families. We had a drink & my daughter ordered a chicken light bite as a late lunch. I didn't eat but tasted her chicken with a Barbeque Sauce served with chips. Price of drinks were surprisingly reasonable The light bites on the menu were acceptable but definitely could have more choices especially to include a healthy seeded oe sourdough option. Parking was not available close to the hotel on a Saturday because if all the diners for Christmas lunch. Hotel rooms were spacious, clean & while simply furnished, had TV, a tray with kettle, cups etc We couldn't get the heater to work but pleased to have a good shower with hot water. We had a good night's sleep & preferred having an airy room. A few higher star-rated hotels in Bournemouth had sealed windows that caused us to be uncomfortably hot & unable to get a decent night's sleep. The location was fantastic with such lovely views & walks. Enjoyed a stroll down to the beach, along Boscombe Overcliffe Drive to catch birwsbof tge the sunset. On the following day we made our way to Southbourne village through a pleasant woodland park called Fisherman's Walk

Great if you can get into one of the better rooms.

The Bad:

Visited with our 2-year old only to find that we had been placed in the smallest room possible, staying with family so on comparing rooms it was odd to find that one of our family attending by themselves was put into a room 2 x the size. - Unable to change this due to the rest of the rooms being fully booked.

Our room (Room 12) consisted of the smallest and narrowest bathroom you ever saw, sitting on the toilet would have resulted in burning your leg on the towel rail (if it worked)

Shower was mouldy, none of the drainage worked and often resulted in a long wait for the water to drain away whilst observing bubbles coming back up from the plughole :( - On the day of our departure they did have drain unblocking services arrive.

One of the window handle's was broken which left a rather sharp stub of a handle, the safety latches which are supposed to stop the windows opening too far and causing a hazard either didn't work or where not locked.

Paint peeling massively around the window frames was very unsightly and had been hidden out of view by opening the curtains.

Bed base was missaligned/wrong.

Breakfast on saturday was horrible with food having to be returned by family members so that it could cooked thoroughly. - This did improve however was still not amazing food, the uncooked food was ok with a nice selection of pastries, etc.

Staff - While the staff attempted to be helpful I only found 2 people out of them all that acctually seemed to understand the concept that I was not there to tell them how they should do there job.. this happened on multiple occasions where you would respond to an answer with a question and be looked at as if you should then give them the answer to your question. An example of this would be ordering food for room service, we received our food (which was actually really nice) but within 5 minutes had another knock at our door with another tray of food which we had not ordered. When we said "No we have our food" we where met with a blank expression and lots of umming.. - Although it's not expected that every member of staff will know everything, simple skills which would allow you to then in that circumstances double check and then leave I would have thought would be essentials. Instead we had to explain a handful of times that this was not our food, we already had our food.

5 parking spaces does not accomodate the amount of rooms the hotel has to offer.

Rooms had a foisty/mouldy smell.

Attempted to call reception around midnight for a noise complaint as this woke us all up and was not fun trying to get everyone back to sleep with the banging and shouting coming from within the hotel.

A group booking was made for 20+ people all of which attended only to find that a table for 16 was setup which was far from adiquate, this seemed to take the staff and kitched by surprise which resulted in very long waits for food along with them refusing to serve any other customers until a couple of hours after we had eaten.

The Good:

Food improved and sunday lunch was nice. Check-in and out was nice and easy The members of staff that I found who understood what was happening helped as much as possible and resolved issues asap with little fuss.

Amazing views from the rooms at the front of the hotel. Quirky lift which whilst terrifying was fun. Very very close to the beach.

Overall the hotel requires some TLC and the staff need some training, I understand that it is a very old building however this should not be an exuse as to why it is falling into a state of disrepair. - I hope that in the future I might stay here again, due to it's location. However this time will be ensuring to ask for the...

Commodore Review||Location:* |The hotel is ideally situated directly across from the beach, offering lovely views, and is just a short walk from the high street, where you can find a variety of shops, bars, and restaurants. This makes it a fantastic choice for those looking to enjoy the local area.||Noise Levels: |As the rooms are located above the pub, guests may experience noise, especially from outside, due to single-glazed windows. This might not be the best fit for travelers seeking a quiet environment for rest. The check-in process is also conducted at the bar, which could be a bit unconventional for some guests.||Staff Experience: |The staff were very friendly upon our arrival. They informed us about an upcoming music quiz that evening and encouraged us to join if we were interested, which added a welcoming touch to our stay.||Parking: |Parking is somewhat limited at the hotel, and while there is street parking available, it’s worth noting that the disabled parking across the road is restricted to a maximum of three hours.||Room 3: |We booked a double room and was allocated one of the sea view rooms , which was a pleasant surprise However, the room we received did not match the images or the positive reviews we had seen. It felt like we was in a different hotel ||The room itself was small but adequate an size, equipped with numerous plug sockets, including USB charging points, and a nice flat-screen TV. The bedding and towels were clean, and the bed, though quite soft, was comfortable. The shower had great water pressure and plenty of hot water, with convenient soap dispensers.||* Areas for Improvement:* |Upon entering the room, there was a noticeable odor coming from the carpet, which was also present in the stairs and hallway. We opened the windows and used a room freshener to improve the scent. The wardrobe had a similar musty smell, which prevented us from hanging up our clothes.||The curtains were hanging off their rail and had an unpleasant odor as well. Additionally, the windows were dirty, inside and out, and the exterior was showing signs of wear. The bright outdoor light outside the window was also quite distracting in the evenings.||Some of the bedside lamps were stained and dusty, and the exposed pipework was dirty with old paint. The bedroom chair was quite dusty and stained.||The ceiling had multiple stains from previous leaks, and the walls had various scuffs and marks. ||The bathroom bath/ sink were clean, but the area surrounding the bath, sink, and toilet needed more thorough cleaning, as there was significant dust and grime build-up. ||Understanding the complexities of preparing rooms quickly, I believe it would be beneficial for the hotel to allocate time for a deep clean at regular intervals. This would allow staff to check and address any needed repairs or decor updates, and perhaps using a deodorizing carpet freshener during cleaning could enhance the overall atmosphere.||Overall Experience: |Given that we primarily used the room for sleeping and showering, we chose to endure the inconvenience rather than voice our concerns to the staff, fearing that a room change might yield further issues. Although the location is perfect, we ultimately decided to cancel our fourth night stay and would hesitate to book this hotel again, as it did not meet our expectations based on the reputation of the pub chain. I genuinely hope the management can address these concerns, as the potential for a great experience is...

If I can put a negative star, I would. My family decided to have lunch at this pub since it has a nice view and it’s near the cliff and flat that we’re staying in. We arrived there just a little before 12pm and the place wasn’t busy. The two guys at the bar (one of them seems to be the manager, could be the tall guy) suddenly whispered to each other. Probably the tall guy was just telling the other guy what to do with us or where to place us. Then when we asked if we could be seated near the window with a view, we were told that they are full booked in the main dining area. A handful of the tables had a reserved label but most of them do not have one. We were told that they can only sit us somewhere else. These were the few seats on the side of the pub, near the toilets!

But since we’re already hungry and do not want to spoil our vacation, we decided to take the table. I noticed that the chair / bench where we’re placed were full of furs (could be from dogs). I can’t believe that they placed us on the table for dogs/pets. The tables were not even in terms of height.

We ordered at the bar as instructed by the shorter guy. We ordered 2 pork loins, 1 salmon, 1 medium rare steak, 1 child’s meal of sausage and chips and 2 large coke zero. We asked the shorter guy at to either separate or totally remove the gravy of the sausage. Then the tall guy (even if he’s busy taking another customer’s order) suddenly interrupted us to tell us (without even caring to look at us) that they cannot do what we’re asking them. My companion told him that her child doesn’t eat gravy so it’s not an option to pour it on the sausage. The shorter guy thankfully answered that he can ask the kitchen to do that. The other staffs were looking at us as if they were l sizing us up (or down perhaps!).

When the orders came, the sausages were burnt (really dark) and the steak was served well done! The servers kept coming back to our table to ask/check if we’re done eating. When our table was being cleaned, we just decided to leave and not make a scene. That’s just 1pm. Too short time for a lunch with two little kids and 4 adults. We noticed that the tables on the main dining area are still vacant. It’s as if they just do not want us to seat in that area.

This has been the worst dining experience I had in the UK. The food wasn’t good and the service was a disaster. It felt like this experience was because of our skin colour. We were the only skin-coloured/asian customers...
