Wetherspoons in Consett has always been a regular place for me to go, however I have now had x2 run ins with management and been treat the worst I've been treat by any management in over 30 years of going to pubs all over the world.
The most recent was on the afternoon of 01 Nov 22 when a very simple question about what was in the cookie dough resulted in a horrific experience as I was essentially told by a supervisor they can't tell me and if it's not on the menu they also don't know. In light of the current allergy obsessed world I found this to be astonishing. Thankfully another bar lady offered to help and showed me the interactive screen at the side of the bar which gave me the information I needed. It had something in I couldn't have and she kindly offered to replace the item for me.
I decided to take this back up with the incredibly rude supervisor who essentially told me she couldn't help, imagine if I had a peanut allergy or something!! I asked why she couldn't have directed me to this information, yet a bar lady could and why she told me she couldn't help me if it wasn't covered on the menu, when clearly she could. Her attitude to this questioning was simply disgusting, she essentially said I was lying and that she didn't say what she had just said. Then she told me she would no longer talk to me about the subject because she was right and I was wrong. If video footage exists I'd be more than happy to review this with her as I know what was said.
What happened to the "customer is always right" being the cornerstone of customer service. I worked as a supervisor in customer service myself, I know this doesn't mean the customer is literally always right, however by taking this approach it allows for far better communication and some middle ground to be established, usually resulting in much better experience for all. It never means 'shut up paying customer you're wrong I'm right and that's it', when it was such a simple question and a very easy answer could have been given straight away.
In all my years I can't remember ever coming across a manager in a customer focused job treating people in this disgusting, rude and downright arrogant manner. I'm 46 and have never written a review like this ever before, however I can't believe just how badly your management treat customers, how can this be allowed it's truly shocked me and tarnished my opinion of...
Read moreArrived today with my family; Myself, partner and two children under two. Once we entered we immediately noticed all of the family areas were full. (Not just family's, also single people who just fancied sitting there.) So myself and my partner decided to sit near the window in the sun. It took myself around 10 minutes to remove my outside clothing and my daughter's. Walk across the bar to collect a high chair and then back to where we had chosen to sit. Within a further few minutes an employee approached myself and my partner and told us we have to move. We explained the situation with the family areas. The employee explained there are four tables to the left hand side of the family area that we can use. (Bare in mind, these are not family area designated seats. So essentially we were being moved into a corner in the shadow.) I attempted to appeal to the employee whom just kept repeatin; "My manager told me, my manager told me." I immediately was unimpressed and explained to my partner that I'm not spoiling our day and there are plenty of places to eat. My partner however, wanted to further appeal to the manager. After a short period of time the manager arrives who kept repeating; "We move family's away from the hustle and bustle." I explained that we were fine and that I would personally walk over to each table to ask if they had any issues with my children being sat there. He was completely closed of to any suggestions to which I said; "let's leave" several times. Which we did and are now currently having a Subway. Needless to say I did not appreciate the way the situation was handled. Especially since all of the people around us were happily chatting with myself...
Read moreIf I could give less I would. Not only is the place falsely advertising being family friendly the attitude of the staff members is absolutely abismal. I attended to have lunch with my partner and 2 children, made an attempt to sit in the family area however this was fully occupied by other families and a few single couples. Due to this we sat in the main seating area after 10 mins of being on the premises and settling my children down for their dinner we were approached by a member of staff who informed us we couldn't sit there and would have to move to the family area (which as previously mentioned was fully occupied). I pointed out there was no seats to which I was met with attitude and told that it didn't matter I had to move. I was under the impression Tim Martin created Wetherspoons as a family friendly pub, I guess the training they give you when you work there is wrong and it's entirely based on whether the manager likes the look of you. To add insult to injury when I asked to speak to the manager I was met with further attitude from a female member of staff and asked "Who do you think you are talking to pet?". Safe to say my money was better spent elsewhere. I have never been to any establishment where I have been treat with such disrespect by the staff and approached with such attitude. I think their staff need to attend a class on how to speak to people,...
