I paid a second visit to The Dukes with a friend and had lunch this time. The food was delicious we shared a prawn starter. Tge prawns were in a lovely creamy sauce which had a lovely kick to it. I had the bang bang chicken salad. The chicken was realky tender and the portions were generous. My only criticism was the dish was a bit dry so the staff bought a couple of accompanying sauces which then bought the dish to life. My friend had the crispy beef salad and said it was very nice. The service was friendly and efficient. I was really impressed with the food and may have to go a third time with my husband. waMy husband and I popped in to The Duke for a couple of drinks. The pub itself is very cosy welcoming and well decorated. There are quite a few covers for food inside. There is a small car park and a few off-street parking spaces. There is also a large garden with both covered and uncovered seating. It is both child - and dog friendly. We didn't eat but plenty of people were and the food looked good. Didn't taste any though. 😁. The staff were friendly and there was enough of them but there was still a wait at the bar. We think it's because there were so many cocktail orders that are labour intensive. The staff were very apologetic about this, but I'm not sure there is a quick solution for this. Would definitely go back and try the food and have recommended...

Everyone in our party of 8 commented positively on the quality of the main courses and deserts.
However, the pub insists on playing piped music, mostly from the 60's (and not even good 60's music), far too loud. Despite being a Beatles fan, I do think that "I Want to Hold Your Hand" has aged rather badly. This assault on the senses makes it difficult to speak to your dining companions and encourages customers either to speak louder and louder and louder or to give up, being unable to hear what is being said. Fortunately, despite being a Saturday evening, the restaurant was only about half full (cause and effect?), otherwise there may have been grounds to sue for damages.
I asked the manager to turn the music down which he did, seemingly with some reluctance, but as soon as I turned my back, one of my companions saw him turn it back up again (and the volume change was also noticeable). This is treating customers...
Read moreActually very disappointed. Having read all the glowing trip advisor reviews we booked to eat here. I know now why there are no negative/honest reviews it’s because you stand a chance to win a crate of Prosecco (I definitely won’t win!) The pub is very cramped with a small car park. Street parking is very limited. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The food is typical pub food which we have had before at other chains, and have had better. The Mediterranean platter had one chicken kebab between 2, the humus and tazikki were in the same ramekin , there were carrots! With aubergines (when did carrots become Mediterranean?) there were no salad or veg with our mains both burger chicken and beef, just chips. The food was hot. We were surprised to be charged a service charge. No mention of this on the menus that we saw. For what we had it was an...
