Really good meal here last night, the host Jo was extra good and found us a seat even though it was fully booked, the food was good and portion sizes massive, I went for the OMG hot chicken parmesan with home cut chips, it was massive šŸ˜‚ enough to feed 2 people which for the price was really good value, I also ordered some garlic bread which was nice and rhubard sponge with custard for desert (always room for desert), the atmosphere in the pub was nice and friendly and the staff were attentive and polite, overall it was a really good experience and if I lived locally I'd be there all the time 😁 I would highly recommend a visit if your looking for a good hearty pub lunch/dinner or if your just wanting a drink or 2 šŸ‘šŸ‘šŸ‘šŸ‘

The gables at Hemlington Middlesbrough. Jo and Mark are one of the most welcoming couples you can meet. The staff are friendly and the food is exceptional. I have a big appetite and I struggled and could not finish my meal. Even though I wanted to, it was that good. Plus the price was great too. Well worth a visit if you are in the area. We went on a Thursday, quiz night. It was great. Brilliant lively atmosphere. Oh and they are pet friendly too. When you go say hello Sid. Shame I live too far away, I would make it my second home. Pictures show the chicken parmesan. One is just right and the other is the OMG!

Couldn't fault the food or bar staff. (Proper local lot, with local dialect) šŸ¤£šŸ˜‚. The parmo had plenty of jalapenos on, and the chips. Just one word. SUPERB. I'd go back and just order a massive plate of chips and slab of butter and bread. Dowey is a good landlord. One downside to the night, prat customer made his mouth go. But don't take anything from the pub. Absolutely superb. I'll definitely be going again. Good old fashioned pub and food. Thank you

Regarding your policy to not give out extra plates to cool children’s meals which are served piping hot, but charge Ā£1.50 for the privilege! If this is your policy, although you give no clear reason as to why.......? May I suggest that you consider serving Children’s meals on a larger plate so it can be spread out rather than telling customers they can have a napkin! This is neither good customer service, nor hygienic. Although the children’s portion sizes are adequate they are served piled on a plate which is the size of a side plate. When eating out you should not expect to have to take your own plate in order for your child to eat safely. Also, I have just viewed your children’s menu on your website and there is infact no mention of your policy.

In response to your response

  1. you don’t order children’s meals off the main menu 2)how are customers to know how big a plate is going to be before receiving the food? People expect and actual dining plate and not a side plate. 3)customers should not have to supply their own plates!
  2. you still haven’t given any reason for your ridiculous policy Is it really that much of an inconvenience for your staff to wash a few extra plates.

It would just be nice if your customers knew exactly what they are paying for. I know your not going to agree because you clearly believe you are always right, but taking constructive criticism on board is a good quaility to have

.

It’s not clearly stated on the children’s menu as already pointed out. You were not asked to change the rule for one. It may not be a hidden charge but the reason why you charge for the use of an empty plate is hidden. And to be quite honest your completely missing the main point which was a suggestion to review the way in which you serve your children’s meals. I didn’t ask for a social media issue I was simply writing a review of my experience on this occasion as the website allows and you chose to reply. I am not disputing that the food is good, I’ve eaten there many times and not had a bad meal. Finally, my comments were constructive not belligerent but I don’t believe you will ever agree that any constructive criticism is warranted due to your attitude of always having to be right. This is evident from a number of other reviews on this page. End of...

The worst experience, wouldn't go back! Asked for a Sunday lunch without mash and Yorkshire's was told this wasn't possible so asked for a child's dinner so there wouldn't be as much mash. Asked for an extra portion of veg and was told couldn't pay for an extra portion.

Got my dinner and the mash was extraordinarily big for a child's portion. I then asked for a separate plate to put the mash and yorkshire on and was told it would be £1.50!!!!! For an empty plate. Paid the £1.50 (more fool me), and put my mash and yorkshire on the plate to allow for my mashed broccoli and three carrots!

THEN the manageress came storming out the kitchen, picked my bag up off the third chair at our table, dumped it on the floor and removed the third chair and put it at the table next to us where a couple was sat (who told us no one extra was joining them).

They then pushed it back to our table......for the manager then to come out, pick the chair up again and put it at a different table. This is all happening whilst eating our dinner!!!!

Absolute disgrace and won't be returning until under new management who can accept and cater to all types of needs! Should be ashamed of themselves!

As seen below the response is as expected, doesn't know how to use proper grammar either, which is even worse. Goes to show you can't always educate people, or educate people in the way of exceptional customer service. Horrendous. (Obviously never owned a designer handbag either). I'm surprised you are still "busy" with that attitude. Read it properly, then come to me with a proper explanation as to why you were so rude!! All I'm hearing is excuses ....and really, you own it? Dear god if this is the way you treat people I hope you find yourself out of business. Well the EI Group will find themselves out of business as they are the real owners aren't...

ā€¼ļøThe Gables Pubā€¼ļø

Go to the gables quite often but today was the worst experience I have ever witnessed (nothing on my part but even so) there was a lady in her 60s with her mum who was hard of hearing, she wanted to sit in a particular place due to the speakers interfering with her mums hearing aid. She sat at the table and the OWNER of the pub asked her to move tables because that particular one needed cleaning, the women tried to explain that her mum needed to sit there as it was quieter but the OWNER of the pub still made her move to a different table right under a speaker, the lady tried to explain to the OWNER again to which she replied I know what it’s like to wear a hearing aid my daughters deaf!!! The lady was spoken to appalling. The poor lady was quite upset! About 10 minutes later a table became free in the quiet area so the lady moved to it to which the OWNER came out of the kitchen again and publicly embarrassed her by saying you can’t sit there it needs to be cleaned and in her words ā€œif you don’t like where I’ve sat you, go to Asda buy your food and cook it yourselfā€ the lady and her mum who had really bad mobility were quite clearly upset by this and the OWNERs attitude as was myself. There was no reason the two ladies could not sit where they wanted too after the table had been cleaned and no one came in and sat there the whole time we were there. For the owner to speak to someone like that is absolutely disgraceful. To say she runs a pub she has no manners, no respect and certainly no customer service skills, oh and to make things a 100% worse she is working in the kitchen with a big moon boot on a big health and safety risk! She certainly needs bringing down a peg or two….disgusting behaviours. I certainly will not...
