This pub is quite local and we use it occasionally for a good breakfast, for other meals it always has a good old fashioned pub food menu which we love. But, we went in yesterday for an early dinner (5.30) on the off chance and it was busy. As we have had before, we were ignored by the waitress who walked past me 3 times, and who actually ignored my "excuse me" to get her attention as we stood there like lemons for at least 3-4 minutes, just a "wont keep you a minute" to acknowledge our existence would have been the minimum I would expect. Definitely staff training needed as we had the same reception in the past. When we were served by a manager we were told they had no seats in the restaurant free, she was apologetic, we hadn't booked so Not a problem, we were offered an hour and a half's wait or eat at the bar, same menu. So we chose the bar which was quieter anyway and by this time we were hungry. My issues are, to pay at the bar I had to squeeze between the two drinkers who sat next to the static card reader (why was it not moveable?) and who happily watched me punch in my pin! The whole pub and restaurant is grubby bordering on dirty, especially the bar furniture, the seats are stained and dirty with seat pad foam on show on some seats where the seats are worn through, this isn't recent as we visited last winter on a cold day for a warm up and sat in the same seats and they were falling apart then, and the carpets are really dirty and sticky in places. The ladies toilet is very tired. The food is fine, basic pub food for a basic price if you eat during their offer times. The steak and Ale pie is great, fresh vegetables would have been better with it rather than frozen runner beans, the lasagne was nice, the garlic bread was one slice of under warmed Tesco value garlic slice but it was a token effort and not really needed. No complaints about the food, we ate it all! So this is a basic pub, tied into a premier inn. Great for a good breakfast, ok for a nip of something on a cold day after a walk to Highcliffe castle but apart from that steer clear until they have had a total refit, done some heavyweight cleaning and found time to train their staff to a higher level. There are a lot of eating places nearby but not basic pub food in Highcliffe itself. I would say probably explore...
Read moreThought it was going to be a nice place with the dog outside in the beer garden but the service was appalling. Dirty tables abandoned outside and neglected throughout our visit. The cheesy chips we ordered were in a standard small cereal bowl, not even loaded to the top and not worth the money. Asked for ice cream sundae to come out with the mains as my 6 year old didn’t have a main meal but it didn’t. The bearded gentleman at the front bar who took out order was very friendly. After eating our meal we waited a further 40mins for the ice cream. Told a lady at the front of the restaurant who was greeting guests about the ice cream and 25 mins later, still no ice cream. Went back inside and asked another waitress who then came out 5 mins later with the ice cream (that looked amazing). Thought she would have given us a free one with my cheeky wink and polite complaint but obviously didn’t think it was necessary. She must have told the manager. Then 5 mins later The manager Monika? (who was working 3-9) without a name badge, came out saying “ice cream” and I said thank you, is that for the long wait? No apology straight away but confirmed that was her name or something similar. Looked shocked that I knew her name that was clearly written on the staff rota chalk board outside the kitchen. Instead of identifying the sequence of events, we felt she just wanted to have an argument, after constantly repeating “what do YOU want to do” in a demanding voice in front of my young family. She clearly didn’t have any customer service skills or a smiley face, whilst I carried on typing this negative review. What a shame! As she walked off up the steps she said “I don’t care” in front of other shocked customers. This is because I said i was leaving a negative review. All she kept saying is “what do YOU want me to do” and I felt like she was picking on me, feeling very intimidated. My teenager then got agitated and upset. Instead of apologising straight away and making us feel welcome after I said my husband is now waiting in the car as he was fed up with waiting. After the manager walked off, I felt I couldn’t continue sitting watching my child eat her ice cream so we just abandoned the table. If she had approached us in a different manner, then things would have...
Read moreI visited the Globe on 26th Oct for breakfast with my Daughter and 2 Grandchildren, I was hoping for a nice full English breakfast with my family which turned out to be a disaster. after waiting an hour for it to arrive and when it did you could see more plate than food!!! It was supposed to be FULL English breakfast it was also supposed to be unlimited!! .We were told that they had ran out of mushrooms ,fair enough it happens, but I think I had a dessert spoon of beans ,half a tomato ,a chippolata sausage and 2 of the smallest rashers of bacon .the toast we asked for didn’t arrive until after the meal ,I ask for more beans that never arrived ,and to top it all it was barely warm.I counted three tables with people sat at.The gent on the opposite table walked out in disgust after waiting an hour the same as we had.So when you look online at the picture of the breakfast menu Imagine a quarter of it and that’s what you will get ! Forget unlimited would you want to wait another hour for it to be topped up.I actually came out of that place hungry.Disgusting would be putting it mildly,I spoke to who appeared to be the manager and told him of our ordeal, then I had to hear him rabbiting on about being short staffed, having to cope with covid, bla bla bla why do these people offer food they cannot deliver. A waste of time !! The only good thing was I had more time with my Daughter and Grandchildren although I was having to apologist out of embarrassment for terrible service and poor food!! David...
