Such an awesome pub with fascinating history behind it! After spending a few hours exploring the streets of York and getting in my steps, I fancied quenching my thirst, yearning for a refreshing shandy. A couple of other pubs I tried, seemed to be really busy. So I gave The Golden Slipper a go, seeing as I'd never been in before, and I'm glad I did! Inside was nice and quiet, served by a really friendly chap at the bar, and then I headed out into the little garden area (there might be more garden space I wasn't aware of, or that didn't notice). The part where I went, past the toilets, there was a table with two chairs, a bench and table, and then another bench and a table, which was more than adequate (especially as there wasn't anyone out there, when I sat down). Was nice to enjoy a crisp pint in the open, but would love to return again in the future, as the inside felt like it had a fantastic vibe to it, with plenty of places to sit and enjoy a pint and people-watch. Definitely look forward to coming back here again,...

I was on my hen party we was just looking for a old pub, just to sit and have a nice drink and be able to chat away from the hussle and bussle. We tired to go to the beer garden no space so we went to sit in a corner where we was told only 6 could sit there. (there was 10 of us) the barman then said "we don't do parties like you." There loss as we just wanted somwhwere quite, hate the fact we was judged to be loud because we was a hen party. I go to York a lot, I wo t be using or recommending this pub....
Read moreIt is what it is, it's a proper old school pub. Playing good music in the background and had the telly going. With a bar full of blokes all nursing various lagers and bitters. Sells grub too. It's not posh or trendy but it's how a pub should be in my eyes. These bars that sell 300ml Spanish beer at £5 a bottle have their place with the in-crowd/guys that wear slip ons with no socks and skinny jeans. if you rather a conversation, a packet of scratchings and a good pint then this is the place for you. There are plenty of other expensive trendy bars in York to cater for you if that's...
