Wheldrakes — Restaurant in England

Just had another great breakfast at Wheldrakes in York and I feel my review is a long overdue debt to the staff of this absolute gem. We live in Edinburgh and been coming on and off for some years now.

English breakfast is hugely underrated, and this is the place you go to understand what true english breakfast should taste like at its best. You can tell they put a lot of love into their cooking. Quick turnaround on food, they have the operation on point and the quality of the food never disappoints.

The staff here are just the nicest people. Kerry, the owner, makes us feel like we are old friends. She’s so friendly and welcoming, it feels like home. Such a genuine hospitality in the modern days of food chains days is a rare find. She makes us feel as if we are long-lost relatives reuniting over eggs and beans and she truly treats us all so well.

Her daughter Leah is nothing short of exceptional in her role of front of house, personable, engaging and attentive from the start to the end of your dining experience. She truly makes sure all your needs are met on the visit and if you require anything else she’s on hand to assist.

Josh who serves behind the counter is equally as welcoming, friendly and hardworking and happy to assist in all aspects of your visit. Has a strong knowledge and background in his skills for coffees so the man to go to in this area.

If you're craving a delectable dessert experience, this spot is a must-visit. The atmosphere strikes a perfect balance between bustling and comfortable, with friendly and attentive service from staff. From the beautifully presented coffees to the heavenly desserts, every detail is top-notch.

It it is cozy and comfortable with plenty of seating.It is a place where you can just relax and enjoy a great meal without any fuss.

Lucky if you live in the area and can’t recommend it enough. My go-to place for a great breakfast. If you’re in York, you absolutely ought to check it out! If not for the food, then just to see Kerry and her team...

Excellent friendly staff and reliable speedy service at all times. Nothing is too much trouble Dietary requirements are catered for if asked! The staff always check to see whether the food served is to your satisfaction. There are many regulars who use this establishment and they are always greeted with a smile and a chat making the place so homely and comfortable.

Cold still water and glasses is always provided on been seated without been requested for all customers. This rarely is the case in other cafes.

The food is consistently good from homemade cakes, breakfasts, lunches etc excellent homemade soups in winter months.The window display of homemade cakes and pastries is always immaculately presented. The food is always flavoursome and of a good texture!

We use Wheldrakes often and never miss calling in when in York. The staff always cater to our needs. The food is excellent in every way. Quality ingredients are always used. The food is always presented well and attention to flavour and colourful garnish is always evident.

We enjoyed Eggs Benedict with bacon , topped on a toasted muffin and hollandaise sauce. The meal was garnished with water cress. The presentation was excellent, the food was soooo tasty including the muffin.

A previous review is very derogatory which beggars belief. Yes they don’t bake their own muffins etc but they do not profess to do so. What food outlet, coffee shop/cafe bakes their own muffins these days????

Highly recommend Wheldrakes in the city of York as your number 1 venue for all varieties of options, from your morning breakfast to lunchtime delights to delicious cakes in the town centre.

The family-run business provides not only exceptional service but also a phenomenal team who go above and beyond their service in customer relations. Attention to detail is very noticeable as soon as you walk through the door; you are treated as family as soon as you walk into the establishment and are immediately greeted with warm smiles and a true investment into the customers day and making your visit a memorable experience.

Kerry, the owner, alongside Leah, her daughter, really goes above and beyond, and that really shows in their warmth and their impeccable service style.

The menu is of clear, locally sourced produce with many options to choose from, alongside some delicious cakes and savoury dishes to please any customer who walks through the door. It really is a standout and something special in York.
