We stayed this bank hol weekend may 2024 The hotel location was phenomenal- beautiful views ideal location. The rooms were also really nice - we were in studio room 2 as it was us two adults and our two children so was plenty of Space and balcony with views Room 7 was for our other family members which wasn’t a patch on ours as was small and slightly tired decor. A few improvement pointers would be 1) to be more generous with towel changing and with the milk supply in the fridge aswell as the shampoos/ shower gel supply We had 4 of us in the room and shared 2 big towels between us all 2) breakfast was a nightmare both days First day was accidental but the waitress rested the tray of juices half on the table so they fell and smashed - accidents happen but from then on the service delivery was rushed and not given with any grace or professionalism. They often rushed off before you’d finished ordering or got things down on the table too quickly 3) another pointer was the kitchen was open and only round the corner from the dining area so we could over hear conversations the staff were having that made it feel not professional As they would say they didn’t have enough bowls/ discussing problems etc More staff training to level it up to 5 star is a helpful idea Also The door handle locking system on room 2 needs fixing as without knowing u have to lift the door up slightly it was impossible to lock/ unlock Having said this the location speaks for itself and the rooms Once a few pointers are ironed out it would match up with it’s 5 star rating But was much more similar to 4 star bed and breakfast hotels

After a long trip up from Cornwall we arrived at the hotel at around 1700. Don’t park at the suggested car park around the back, it’s a long haul down hill and it is definitely not a secure area. The receptionist was nice enough and we were given our room. Now it gets grim, pubic hair in the bath, hair and some sort of grease on the headboard, two single mattress protectors, now that’s Fawlty Towers, and when I went to open the blinds there must have been about a years worth of dust and grime on them. Dust dangled eerily from the ceiling…am I painting a pleasant picture. We asked to change rooms but not possible, the receptionist, bless her, said she would clean but that was no 30 min job, this needed a deep, deep clean. Luckily we managed to get accommodation elsewhere, there was no way we were going to stay in that absolutely filthy room. I have asked for my deposit back but no-one has had the decency to even get back to me, not quality customer service eh? Stay here at your peril! Needless to say we cancelled our restaurant booking, god only knows what the kitchen is like. (By way of a footnote: I have received my deposit. Don’t bother with any communication or apology, that’s fine, your actions speak loudly enough.)

Having been to the Isle of Wight over some ten years - the last time previously was i 2013, I wanted to show my partner what I so loved about the island.||Back then The Hambrough was regarded as a boutique hotel of high standard, so I decided to book 3 nights. This I did on the phone and the lady that took my booking for room 1 - also kindly arranged for the ferry booking which helped greatly.||Arriving at the hotel we were greeted courteously and made our way up to room 1, the view from this room is superb however notwithstanding this, the condition and décor fell way short of expectations. There was clearly an issue with the ceiling over the bay window, and the curtains were torn from sun bleaching. The general standard of cleaning was not what I would have expected.||As this was a treat for my partner I chose not to raise this at this point as I didn't want to mar the stay.||We ate on the restaurant that evening and the food and service were really good.||The breakfast offering was good and freshly prepared and we enjoyed the start to the day on all 3 mornings.||Such a shame that the environment was so tired and lacklustre ||On departure I gave feedback to the lady on reception and stated that I didn't feel that the offer was good value - she then went and got the manager, who came and we discussed my views - I was told that the price reflected that the room had sea views and a separate shower in the bathroom and it was in her words a large room. I said that the décor left a lot to be desired, I was offered a 10% discount on the price which I accepted.||Overall I was disappointed as knowing the standards that the hotel had previously renowned for it was a shame to see how time had eroded this.||When standards are high price is seldom an issue but when they drop then the question of value for money comes into sharp focus. ||As is said...

We stayed this bank hol weekend may 2024 The hotel location was phenomenal- beautiful views ideal location.

The rooms were also really nice - we were in studio room 2 as it was us two adults and our two children so was plenty of Space and balcony with views

Room 7 was for our other family members which wasn’t a patch on ours as was small and slightly tired decor.

A few improvement pointers would be

  1. to be more generous with towel changing and with the milk supply in the fridge aswell as the shampoos/ shower gel supply We had 4 of us in the room and shared 2 big towels between us all

  2. breakfast was a nightmare both days First day was accidental but the waitress rested the tray of juices half on the table so they fell and smashed - accidents happen but from then on the service delivery was rushed and not given with any grace or professionalism. They often rushed off before you’d finished ordering or got things down on the table too quickly

  3. another pointer was the kitchen was open and only round the corner from the dining area so we could over hear conversations the staff were having that made it feel not professional As they would say they didn’t have enough bowls/ discussing problems etc

More staff training to level it up to 5 star is a helpful idea

Also The door handle locking system on room 2 needs fixing as without knowing u have to lift the door up slightly it was impossible to lock/ unlock
