The Lemon Plaice — Restaurant in England

Now I'm not one for bad mouthing business but this afternoon. I waited outside 15 minutes before opening st 4:30. Ordered half chips and medium cod twice. To the shock to find out the fish was from the lunch time. I am a fish person and I know 100% the fish was no fresh. The cod was cold, dry, no smell or grease all the signs it was not fresh. What was the point in queuing up before opening. Normally with this chip shop you'd have to wait 10-15+ minutes to get your order. Times are hard for businesses but it be harder when customers don't return. I don't expect to pay £20 to not eat my food. Disgusting I must admit and I keep saying I won't go back but this was the last straw. I can't support this local business anymore. I'm not the only whose had multiple bad meals from here. You do try and to help and support local independent businesses but I'd rather go somewhere else...

Dropped in last week on the way home from work, always loved the look of this place, brings back memories of going to the chippy with my mum when I was a kid, has that 80s look, from the business cards on the wall to the sweetie vending machines. But I love how clean it all looks, and well looked after to. Anyway simple order from me, sausage in batter, saveloy and chips. Well the chips for me were perfect, snappy crunch and fluffy in the middle and not to many in a portion. The best I have had in a long time, top marks. But hey...where’s the sausage!!! Has to be the worlds smallest sausage in batter, the batter was light and crispy but the sausage lacked flavour. Saveloy was done how I like it crispy and not kept in a bath of warm water, but stone cold. So as I say chips heaven the rest not there for me yet, but I’ll be back to...

Excellent fish & chips at a good price! ! Have recently arrived in Shefford and this was our first time with The Lemon Plaice and it will not be our last !! I called to ascertain the ordering process which was clearly explained ie there may be a wait on arrival depending on numbers of customers in the shop plus availability of chips. Things went smoothly and our large haddock ( a good size), one scampi(advised on the phone that this was based on weight and was likely to be 7 to 10 pieces - it was 8) plus large chips were excellent ! We found the large chips too big for 2 adults and will probably opt for medium next time....
