My wife and I visited The May Tree, Helston this morning for breakfast and were genuinely impressed by the whole experience. From the moment we walked in, we were warmly greeted by Rachel at the front of house, who took my name with cheerful professionalism (and didn’t even blink when she noticed the title!). She handled our booking and payment with ease and kindly showed us to Table 11—a lovely, peaceful spot by the window. We went for the hot buffet breakfast and everything looked fresh and inviting. I have to give special credit to Emma for the scrambled eggs—easily the best I’ve had in a long time. Light, fluffy, and perfectly seasoned, they were a real highlight. Well done, Emma! We also met Sandy, who was just as friendly and helpful, keeping everything moving smoothly alongside Rachel. It was clear that both take pride in what they do, and it made a big difference to the overall atmosphere. They made us feel really welcome without being overbearing—just spot-on customer service. The only small issue was the lack of a handle on the disabled toilet door, which made things a bit awkward—but that's a quick fix and didn’t take away from the otherwise excellent experience. All in all, The May Tree gave us a brilliant start to our day. Great food, great service, and a lovely environment—we’ll definitely be back!

Visited last minute for Sunday lunch- and the food was absolutely lovely. We called ahead to see whether we could squeeze in, and the lady we spoke to on the phone was extremely friendly and polite. It was busy when we arrived, so there was around a 5-10 minute wait to be shown to our table but this wasn't an issue. Once seated, we decided to opt for a roast dinner. We were told a waiter would be over to take our order, but after around 20 minutes of waiting we went to the bar to enquire. Shortly after this, a waiter arrived at the table to take our order. It took around an hour for the food to come, but the pub itself was comfortable and welcoming. This wait time is understandable for a busy Sunday service with large parties at other tables. The staff appeared to be extremely busy and stressed- which is no fault of their own. Overall, the food was lovely, but the service could have been better- but it will not deter me from visiting again when I'm back in Helston.

Staying at the Premier Inn, Helston, the May Tree is within the same car park, easy for my morning breakfast and evening meal. The meals are delicious, very hard working staff, all very bubbly and making their customers feel welcome, thank you to Ellie, Tiff and Emily for waiting on me, my stay was brightened up in the evenings with your lovely personalities, oh, and helping me decide what to choose to eat with the "Smothered platter" and "Smothered Chicken" . Chef Kelly, wonderful meals, an absolute delight to have sampled... I hope to visit again in the future. Best wishes to you all. - Paul. 24/8/2023

First of all if I could give the service we received more than 5 stars I most certainly would. We had come to Helston on a family holiday and happened to stumble across this place when trying to google search "family friendly" pubs. We first came to The May Tree on the 12/8/24. It was very busy but one of the staff members managed to squeeze us on a small table near the bar which after traveling for 6 hours we were glad for. Within 5 minutes of us being sat there another member of staff came over and said she had noticed us sat there and had found us a big enough table in the restaurant side. When I tell you the food is incredible, I'm not lying. It's your normal type of pub grub but a bit extra, the pizzas are to DIE FOR and made fresh. The prices are absolutely amazing for Cornwall and actually cheaper than any other pub we had been to around Cornwall (massive bonus because if you've ever been to Cornwall, everything is so expensive compared to home, we are northerners). Because the service and food was so good, we decided to book in straight away for 14/08/24 which was my daughters 13th birthday. She was feeling a bit down about being away for her birthday and again the staff couldn't of done enough for her. Starting from helping me smuggle her birthday cake in, to actually bringing it out and singing happy birthday to her too. They really made the end of her birthday day incredible. We then decided to visit again on the 16/08/24 (yes we became addicted to the place because it was perfect for us) and again there was no change in the service or the quality of food. I want to give a huge shout out to all the waitresses and the supervisor I believe she was. You all went above and beyond for us as a family and I will never forget that.

I would suggest booking a table if you are wanting to come here for food because it does get busy quick and I had seen people being turned away because they couldn't get them a table. I promise you won't be disappointed.

10/10 from us and we will be...

Absolutely horrendous!

We were a table of 15 (booked in advance), there to scatter some family ashes in Cornwall which the staff were aware of prior. On arrival we bought our own drinks at the bar and sat down to order food. We requested 3 separate bills which was fine and they took the order for each one. It took almost an hour for the starters to come out, then about half an hour later one bill’s mains came. Fast forward another half an hour and no other mains had arrived, the ones we had were already finished. After complaining at the bar a young waitress was sent over to explain that the food would be out shortly, and when we pointed out other tables who arrived after us seemed to be getting starters and mains before us she said it’s because we had starters? Absolute rubbish as some people had come, had starters and main and then left in the time we were there. At this point one bill just cancelled their food after waiting 2 hours for mains. A manager then came over to see what food we still wanted, she was rude, disrespectful and tried to blame the whole issue on us despite waiting so long and spending plenty of money at the bar. We were told the food was ready to be plated in the kitchen, 20 minutes later all the food eventually came out including the cancelled bill. It was at this point two of the bills promptly got up and left after having enough of the utter incompetence - the manager tried to claim she didn’t know what food was which bill despite being the one to come out and check which food we still wanted. Later on those who were left overheard the staff members (including manager) slagging our group off to other customers. If I ever have to go near The May Tree again it will be 100 years too soon, disgusting unprofessional staff and horrible service, if I could give it zero stars I would. I hope head office takes...

Sorry to say this after living in Cornwall and experiencing decent clean hard working Cornish people this place you must avoid not only the food but the place and experience was so negative and poor something I had never had before the food must be boil in a bag or frozen because it was like no food I have ever tasted before I couldn’t find the pasta sheets in lasagna poor ingredients my father had a steak which was of very inferior quality now the service was very slow over an hour from sit down to dessert in the end of the meal I was offered another meal so I tried to order a different meal which they didn’t have now this is good Friday and surely you might run out after a busy weekend but not before so I just said give my dad of 91 his dessert I’m going to have a drink but to unfortunately they would not serve me we have paid our money through premier inn and I didn’t not eat at all I cannot believe this place is ever open treating people like this this is my worst experience ever of going for a meal this morning we had breakfast that was just as bad so was not a one off the eggs were not cooked the sausages were over cooked bacon was cold there is just no care or love put into nothing of all the years we have been in Cornwall we have never experienced anything so poor and so sub standard as this place what a shame for the poor holiday makers what have come down for a holiday and been treated like this what a disgrace...
