I cannot begin to tell you how DISAPPOINTING and DISGUSTED I am at the cost of this place to hire and its so called Buffet food. I really wish I had took pictures, as you will never beleave how BAD this surprise party, BUFFET was ! ! !
First of all we had to climb a spiral staircase and then another 2 cornered staircase to get to the 3rd floor function room/Cocktail Bar. No lift, No thought for ♿ or older people AT ALL 😡. When the So Called BUFFET came out at around 8pm, we all waited and waited for the rest of the food to arrive but nothing came. People were hungry and were expecting a lovely Buffet but all that was brought out was a deep tray of FRENCH FRIES (which went cold quite fast) and about 4 trays of mixed fillings, SANDWICHES, MAYO and SAUCE. By 9pm guests started asking "Where is the rest of the Buffet?" As there was NO salad No flans No pork pies or saugage rolls or pickles, No crisps and NO DESERT CAKES. 😡😡😡🤬😡😡😡😡🤬😡😡😡 IT WAS SHOCKING TO LEARN that the young lady that had booked this venue, was CHARGED around £500 for this so called Buffet(which anyone could of bought for £20 from Morrisons with 2 frozen bags of fries), Cocktail Bar/function room, 1 stressed and miserable bar staff/glass collector/DJ (which was a CD disc that was changed from time to time, as people asked for different music). I really felt sorry for the young lady as her guests started complaining about the food and saying "is that it." It was not what anyone was expecting. I cannot begin to tell you how DISAPPOINTING and DISGUSTED I was at the cost of this place and its food. for the price she paid. I will never advise anyone to book a party there but if you do make sure you know what you are getting and what exactly you...
Read moreArrived to our booking 10 minutes early, to be shown to our table in a room of bickering and complaining. Our order was taken with no information of any wait times or problems the restaurant were having. Tables were talking between each other on how long they had already been waiting ( approx 1 hour ) for food with no indication from staff as to why, a table then left. More people arrived with no info on issues so sat and waited to be served that never happened so they left. Our drinks were brought upstairs but sat on a table waiting to be brought to us for 20 minutes. Starters arrived after 30 minutes, the soup was bland and tasteless which required a hefty amount out salt and pepper and the chicken pâté had a piece of plastic in it, there was no check back from staff so the food was left to be eventually taken away. Whilst waiting the 45 minutes for our main more tables had left and were also having troubles. The mains arrived were edible but we weren’t asked for any more drinks we just wanted to leave at this point so we tried to attract the attention of a waiter for sometime to get the bill. After getting their attention and waiting 25 minutes there was still no bill so we headed to the bar downstairs to try and quickly pay and leave. We travel to the lakes a few times a year and always try to eat here this is the first time we’ve had a terrible experience and has ruined the idea of returning in the future. No check backs by staff, food that was inedible, terrible atmosphere, no repeat drinks order and worst of all no information from staff as to why the problems were occurring. Have given staff service rating 3/5 inky due to the politeness but couldn’t...
Read moreThe Mill at Ulverston is one of the King's water mills, a structure which goes back to the 13th century. It is located in a part of the town called the Gill, which is a narrow street leading on to a public car park. There are several places for disabled drivers or passengers which are free of charge, and is handy for the Mill. I had a meal with my mother, both of us making the same choice of breaded fish and twice-cooked chips, and mushy peas in a separate ramekin. I found it good, a large fillet of fish which drooped from the place at either end, and hand cooked chips. The peas were good, although difficult to eat from a ramekin. On the wall of the mill were bon mot's, which caught the eye unexpectedly, such as one by Edmund Birkett, Ulverstonian and former judge at the Nuremberg trials, who said that "an impromptu speech is not worth the paper it is written on". We both found our dessert delicious, which was a large slice of Chef's cheesecake, in our instance, Bailey's flavoured with ice-cream on the side. Silence was reverentially observed while eating this. I lingered to admire the large wheel which controlled the water flow. We emerged into rain, but it is definitely...
