Horrible staff. Racist toward my friends. Told us to buy a drink immediately or 'get out' because they're 'not a charity', you're not a charity, you're a pub. You should be SOMEWHAT hospitable to people. you lost a lot of money last night, my group of about twenty would have stayed and enjoyed our evening if you weren't self righteous and frothing at the mouth for business. We went to Hope and Anchor, which was a FAR more welcoming environment, had so much soul and character. We stayed and drank there until late in the evening.
Piel castle is a shoddy attempt at cosy. It's a cold rendition of an authentic northern pub. I hope being cruel conservative buggers works out for you.

The one star reviews you see further down the page are complete rubbishâŠI was in the pub at the time that whole group were spoken to by the land lord..they had been repeatedly told not to bring in their own drinks and had ignored the warning multiple times. They were not even asked to leave! They were told quite rightly they had to buy a drink from the bar if they wanted to stay. We called in as we were passing by and were really glad we did. They had a nice selection of four real ales on tap, and the beer was excellent. We were lucky to find a seat, and there was live music onâit turns out they have bands on Friday nights.
The band was great and had people up dancing, creating a lively and fun atmosphere. Everyone seemed to be having a good time. If you enjoy good beer and live music, this place is well...
