The Mowhay is one of those cutesy places where you have to look hard for two chairs that match. It's fine. Enjoyed eating here many times in the past but on our latest visit the 'full English breakfast' looked like yesterday's reheated. Worse, it tasted like that too & wasn't even well heated. Two (small) fried eggs were nice enough but the rest was not. Bacon done to a crisp, sausages nearly as hard, hash browns (which should never be served with English breakfast but ignore that for now) were cold by the time I got through the sausages, and baked beans (in little pot thankfully) were also only a couple of shades above cold with the skin on top that you get from leaving them in a fridge. The lightly toasted sourdough 'bread' was thankfully unburned and a remarkably nice colour so if you call that bread it was probably the best bit but why do so many places not provide sufficient butter? Nice cup of tea and original artwork (for sale) on the walls were the only things apart from the full English eggs that I could actually enjoy. Sorry. Oh and the 'front of house' staff were totally fine and they also have a lounge bar for coffee & cake (or alcohol & cake), might try that sometime if I decide to forgive them for possibly the worst 'full English' I can...

Never felt more unwelcome anywhere, started with incredibly short snappy replies from the lady on service. We had been on a long walk in the rain because we won't the weather stop us on holiday, stopped in for coffees and cakes, they had nothing the children liked as we asked to buy any snack, because they didn't have any we asked politely if we could give the children their crisps from our bag as they were tired and hungry and the reply was "absolutely not" followed by an abrupt turn. She was happy for the children to stand outside in the rain to eat.

Will never attend again, horrendous customer service.

The response says it all. And we spoke to other people in town who advised similar experiences here. Apparently, 4 coffees and 2 cakes we had paid 30 pound for doesn't matter to be told a packet of skips for the children is...

Shame. Previously nice restaurant, but after my last experience all I can say is £30 for a steak that was requested at medium rare and came closest to well done, I was severely disappointed. Sent back to the kitchen, told that it was close to rare when it was more grey than one could imagine. Would have been forgiven after acceptance from the kitchen, but postliminary of it being sent back no action was taken. A lovely evening ruined by the stubbornness of kitchen staff. A shame as all other staff were lovely and accommodating. Other meals looked enjoyable, just would advise not going for the steak especially the steep price and simple accompaniments. A shame to a dinner that was expected to be lovely. Overall overpriced and un-accommodating. Won't be returning anytime soon or recommending to any of our holiday home guests....

Fantastic little café hidden away up the hill from the beach. We made a bit of a pilgrimage to this place from the Padstow ferry drop-off as we'd seen the reviews and thought it worth the trek. It was a decent walk across multiple terrains, but very scenic and well worth it for the food at the end! We each had the equivalent of a New York deli sandwich in a baguette with some chips and a Cornish ale - pure heaven! It was sunny so we sat in the little garden outside, but when we went in to pay I wished we'd sat indoors because the decor was absolutely charming. So much to look at, so bright and airy and colourful...can't wait to return!

I’ve been many times to the Mowhay now but never thought to leave a review! Just wanted to say how lovely it always is. I’ve never had a bad meal there, the menu has a great selection of choices but isn’t large so each dish can be cooked to perfection. The service is always great and friendly, the place itself is small and cosy and I always enjoy the original artworks on the walls. Always one of my go-to restaurants when visiting the area. Highly recommend!

We first popped in for a shandy on the Saturday early evening, and we’re very welcomed by the team. A quiet vibe, as they were closing up, nonetheless we enjoyed it and so came back Sunday morning for coffee and breakfast. We both opted for avocado, poached eggs, mushrooms and sourdough. £34 with an extra sausage feels quite pricey for breakfast but the cost of living is high right now, and we couldn’t complain about the quality or the service.
