Went for tea tonight for father's day. Not particularly busy when we arrived. Placed order for some.starters. After what felt like an exceptionally long time for a starter to arrive Waitress called our surname as we were seated outside. She put 2 plates of food down then walked off. Firstly she never said what the food was and secondly she did not present with any cuttlery. Before we had chance to even say that's not the food we ordered she was gone. I had to take the plates back inside myself and tell another waitress what had happened. She kindly apologised and said I will get yours out prompt. After Another wait, our starters arrived. 10/10 for starters for quality and taste. We finished our starters and I went to place an order at the bar for some more drinks. I felt I had to tell the barmaid we had finished our starters as I was not hopeful of a prompt return to check we had finished. Our mains arrived. I ordered the duck pancakes as my main with a portion of chips. On arrival the duck was stone cold and pancakes were a bit hard round the edges. I asked the waitress " is this dish normally served cold?" Her response was " not sure, I have never served it before". Not really reassuring or helpful. I asked if she could take back as am pretty sure it's meant to be hot. With no hesitation she kindly took the dish away and returned with a warmer duck. I had ordered a portion if chips whuch never arrived. Fotunately there were some spare chips from the kids plates so i asked the waitress to remove the ordered portion of our bill as we never got them. On completion of our meal we went to order the kids ice cream as was part of children's meal. A young man came out to the table approximately 5 minutes after ordering only to tell us that ice cream is not available as the freezers were too high and the ice cream was mush. There seemed to be alot of children in so if this was the case why weren't we informed when we ordered meals? When asked what's the alternative the response was " nothing". X 2 very dissapointed children. Normally I don't bother with reviews but despite the food being lovely it was let down massively by the poor service we received in what seemed a reasonably quiet time of the day. I will not be rushing back in a...

We had family meal at the new board Inn to celebrate a member of the family retiring. A number of issues that arose during the time there. One of them being that all of the meals had come out apart from our young daughters, the other children's had come out before the adults, when we asked about it, they said it was getting plated up, sounded like they forgotten about it.

Other issue is the pricing of a cordial drinks, no options for children or adults sizes and the cost for 5 drinks, 2 orange and water, 2 blackcurrant and water and 1 lime and water being over £11!

Last of all is the desserts that had been ordered. My wife and daughter ordered a child's waffle and cream and adults waffle and cream, they both came at the same time and my wife asked the waiter about why the desserts are the same apart from there was 1 strawberry on hers cut into 4, he said that is what you've ordered and my wife replied yes but they are the same tho, why is the child's £2 and adults £5.75 and the difference is one strawberry cut into 4. Which he replied that is just the pricing on the menu. My wife replied well I don't want it as I'm not paying almost £4 for a strawberry, you can take it back. To which he sternly said yeah but this is what you've ordered. She said no, I don't want it, can you take it away. He didnt try and improve the situation by saying I'll get the manager or I'll see what I can do to improve the adults dessert eg add more fruit or put scoop of ice cream to justify the big...

The Steak and Ale Pie was lovely, The veg was that under cooked I couldn't cut through them with my knife, The chips were over cooked and kept warm. So naturally was in edible. It took 20 minutes for the waiter to attend our table to take our order. The pub was not over busy on a Thursday night. It took a further hour for our meal to actually arrive. The waitress was friendly that delivered it to our table and asked if everything was alright, to which I responded if only I could cut through the veg. She soon made a hasty exit. She came back to clear our plates away and asked if we enjoyed it. I stated clearly I was not happy. She left my plate behind and eventually the landlord came along to ask what the problem was. I told him that i would not give my dog that. He did apologise and knocked £4.85 off the bill. Would not go back there...

We were staying at Ushaw and this was recommend as the local place to eat,we decided to give it a try instead of driving into Durham which was probably the best desicion we made all weekend 😀 The atmosphere was very friendly from the moment we entered to the moment we left , the food was amazing and the waiting staff were friendly and very helpful. Had starters and main )but didn't remember to take pic of the starter ) and the portion size was good and the quality of ingredients top notch, definitely worth a visit if you are within at least 20 miles 👍 will definitely be back

Decided to go here for food during a weekend visiting Durham. The food is home cooked and very tasty. The portion sizes are excellent and the staff are friendly. We had the corned beef pie, chips and mushy peas and the lasagne with pancetta, salad and garlic bread and a side of chips. Would recommend both dishes, the only small 'criticism' but it is very much a personal preference is that the chips although tasty and homemade, would be better if crispy.

We love this place never had a bad meal there so when we finally had a chance to go kid free we decided to go for the steak ... had great expectations but unfortunately we were disappointed. They were gristly tasteless tough and overcooked. It cost £59.10 for 2 steaks 2 cokes and a sticky toffee pudding (Scrumy). We will go back but not for the steak....
