There is an old rhyme that says if you go down to the woods today you are in for a big surprise. It wasnt a wood I went to it was the north bay beach in Scarborough and what a surprise I got. It's a total disgrace with a shortage of clean sand and what is there is covered in rotting seaweed. At one time in the distant past the beaches always received a clean up with a giant looking rake that was towed by a tractor. Sadly it appears this no longer happens. Read morePretty beautiful beach area - great place for kids as water is quite shallow when the tide is out. Not great for swimming as an adult as it's so shallow but we only went at low tide so might be different at high tide. Nice café nearby if you park in the Sea Life carpark and there are clean toilets and changing rooms at 40p a visit which is reasonable for how well looked after they are. There are a couple shops and bars too although I didn't use them. It is subject to huge tides that completely cover the beach when the tide is in, but reveals a large, clean beach of soft sand with rock pools when it is all the way out. So be sure to check the tide times before you visit.
Beach is dog friendly for half of the year, but from May to September, it is strictly NO dogs. However, there is a nice promenade that runs along the length of the beach that is good for dog walks or to enjoy when the tide is all the way in.
