I'm so confused and disappointed by this experience. I feel embarrassed for recommending it to a friend as the best place to eat in malton and very sad that wasn't the case this evening. They forgot our to take a drinks order until we asked for some drinks once they brought out the food. They forgot the fries and I was confused by my pizza as I order a tomato, mozzarella and roasted veg and received olives and artichokes - i asked the staff member what this pizza was and he confirmed it was a completely different pizza on the menu so then I just decided to keep it simple and order a pepperoni instead as he took the first pizza away. He then came back and said apparently that was the roasted veg pizza and then stood there expecting me to know what he was to do - so I asked -- 'okay then, what do you want me to do?' -- so he said not to worry because the staff get free food at the end of the night so they can eat the first pizza and asked me if I still wanted a pepperoni - by this point I was just confused and my friend had almost finished his pasta so I just said ill leave it and wont eat anything. He apologised and said he will remove it from the bill. Then 10 minutes later he said that the kitchen had made a pepperoni anyway and asked if I wanted it and said to not worry because he will remove the first pizza off the bill - essentially making this pepperoni one free and therefore said I may as well have it --- ok sure, I ate half of it because the poor lad seemed so confused - made little sense and just kept saying sorry and standing there awkward waiting for me to somehow know what was going on lol - anyway time for the bill - he awkwardly brings it over and says sorry he has to charge me for the original pizza because it was technically correct (he took it away and never brought it back, saying the staff will eat it after telling me it was the wrong pizza! - then I somehow ended up with a pepperoni because they made it anyway after I said I dont want anything as it had been too late!) He said he couldn't do anything and he had to add the pizza to the bill. So not only was my pizza that I paid for taken away by staff because he said it was the wrong one - I was then charged for it! I am half way between laughing and being utterly confused to feeling cheated. As a side note - my friends pasta had loads of oil in it and did not like it but the main complaint is the utterly confusion, the multiple errors and then the cheek of saying they will remove the pizza from the bill and then charge us more for a pizza that we didnt even have because it was taken away from us! Feel really disappointed because I absolutely loved this place before and never had a problem - wouldn't have even left a review if I wasn't promised the pizza removal from the bill only to be charged for the one I...
Read moreFriendly staff, lovely atmosphere and food overall was very good. We had a great time there and had some really wonderful dishes! I thoroughly recommend the small plates.
But we were absolutely shocked at the size of the aubergine parmigiana, £18 for a small tapas bowl. It was very good, but that kind of pricing is ridiculous and doesn’t really make sense compared to the rest of the menu. When you compare with the pastas with seafood and meat, how was a small tapas bowl more expensive? It’s a vegetable dish! Vegetables shouldn’t cost more than life! Than meat and fish! It’s aubergine, cheese, and a nice tomato sauce. I make it at home. The starters were incredible value when put next to the main, in-fact I’d say that parmigiana was a starter portion, I wouldn’t have paid more than £9, even that is a stretch when you think of the cost of what is in it. It’s been the person who’s ordered it’s favourite meal for the past 40 years, they have ordered it many time in different restaurants, they usually get 2x as much for 1/2 the price. Huge shame.
I’d also work on the pizza dough a bit more. I think/ hope I was just unlucky. I believe the dough needed more stretching, because apart from the taste and being too thick, mine looked tiny compared to other pizza I’ve seen in reviews (and as a regular Neapolitan pizza eater, I know the standard). I love pizza, so I was sad I had a small (dense) pizza when I’ve seen other having pizza that are the size of the plate, which I’m guessing were nice, thin and crispy.
I’d definitely come back again and would recommend to people, just not the...
Read moreReally disappointing as we were looking forward to eating here after such good reviews. The two young staff who serving were very stretched serving a full restaurant, they were very polite and friendly. We had to catch the attention of the barman to get a drink after waiting 15 minutes when we first arrived.
I ordered butterflied king prawns that came on 3 tiny skewers shrivelled up and dry served in a tiny dish with some tomato sauce that was cold. I complained that it was cold and the waitress apologised and asked me if I would like a fresh one. When it came back all they had done is put more tomato sauce in the dish and laid the original prawns back on top. I didn't say anything just asked for some bread to mop the sauce up to which the waitress replied so you'd like a bread order. We had five small pieces of french bread that cost £2. My husbands starters were five mussels on a slice of bread - he thought he was getting a bowl of mussels and thought it was very expensive for what it was.
Main course I ordered pizza and asked for garlic, chilli and jalapenos to be added, little did I know they were 75p each, on top of the cost of the pizza, oh well you live and learn! My husbands seafood linguine he said was just like string and didn't have much flavour and the portion size was tiny. Lucky as I had pizza, he helped me out with that otherwise he said he would have still been hungry. Overall very disappointing which I did convey to the waitress when we left. Sadly we won't be returning nor will I recommend this to our...
