A charming elderly lady was behind the bar, we orderd some drinks and food, the wine was exactly what my Mrs drinks and the beer direct from the pumps, as expected. The food was more than either of us could eat Mrs had a Ham and Cheese Polughmans. The cheese was half inch thick slab of good chedder the ham was obviously hand carved gammon thickly cut the Tomato a d beetroot where both half of each plus a large porton of green leaf topped with a whole Cibata bread cut in half warmed with lovely melting butter. Mrs brought home half the Ham and Cheese, as too much to eat. Mine was a BLT it had a large salad with it and about 4 slices of quality back bacon. Both portions where big and brought some food home, and to a very high standard. The Atmosphere was extremely welcoming, and other locals playing cards talking. To call it a Old tradional Pub is a đđ to what it is it is obviously more than that, as everyone who came in in the way of regulars she know by name and those passing, where made to feel very welcome. I did not take photos of my food...
Read moreWe needed a central hotel to stay overnight for a wedding. Pelican Inn was perfect as we were literally sleeping there. Situated right in the market place, no parking so we used a long stay which was 5 mins walk and inexpensive. The pub is a lovely traditional one, small with a little attractive courtyard garden. The room was off the courtyard and was a reasonable size with a velux electric controlled window. Good shower and decent beds. All looked very clean and comfortably decorated. The owners were helpful with some questions in advance ( but not that quick to respond) - I asked if it was possible to get into the room half an hour early to get changed for the wedding and they made this happen for us and even texted me to tell me when it was ready. We were given keys to get in through the garage doors. Canât fault it and would definitely...
Read moreHad Sunday lunch at The Pelican yesterday with 7 friends - Absolutely superb - staff were welcoming, clean rest rooms - a typical âoriginalâ market town pub with character plus there was a lovely fire to greet us too. Vegan and vegetarian options were awesome and roast pork dinners were sumptuous- clean plates all round. Fresh vegetables- counted 10 different ones - tasty gravy too - all home cooked food and big portions - the puddings were truly luscious đ A lovely family run pub - great locals- good beer and range of other drinks to suit everyone. Very reasonably priced and worth every penny. I will be going back and would recommend highly, especially after a lovely walk along the Caen hill locks. Well done Sarah (the Chef) and her...
