Sunday lunch.....tried it for the first ( and last) time despite its pricey tag of £9.95. We'd asked the landlord about it the day before, he'd said it's a carvery etc. Well, it's pre cooked & sliced pressed Turkey, pork or beef served from a heated trolley and one portion only, no returns. Desert's another £3.50 and drinks as usual, nothing in with the £9.95 meal price. The meal was hot enough, however, the sprouts, carrots and peas had been boiled to death, the roasties were solid and the woman who doled-out the meat, well, an acid persona on a good day......"you give me ticket" was her way of asking for our pre-approval paid ( at the bar) meals voucher! Then her steely glaze and hiss when I asked for slices of pork AND Turkey! I can get this type of treatment at work from managers but at least I,m getting paid! Suffice to say, we won't be going back even if the price came down to a realistic price level of Spoonies or perhaps £7.50 or throw in a desert and round the price to a tenner. The missus and I hoped that, this latest in a long line of landlords would have done a proper ' carvery' where chef would........Er, carve slices off joints as requested and freshly prepared veg etc, not this cheepie job that will simply fizzle out. There's too much quality food and local choice of venues at keen price levels for Mr Pepper Mill to think he can get away with this overpriced...
Read moreFound this place by accident, we were loooking for somewhere to eat, so glad we did, carvery only on a Sunday 12-4, £10 each. Meat was cooked beautifully, not stingy on portions either, actually asked us how much we wanted, if we had enough, veg were all good, lots of choice, peas, carrots, cabbage, brussels, mashed potato, roasties, stuffing, pigs in blankets & yorkshires, decent thick gravy,(can't bear watery rubbish), & mint sauce, cranberry sauce, mustard, & one other,(can't remember), usually have to pay extra for the pigs, but were included. Three of us for a carvery each, & a pint of doom bar, glass of wine, & a Coke, was just under £40, thought it was going to be at least ten pounds more than that. We alsohad free desserts, but they did say they don't know how long that will carry on for, regardless superb value for money, lovely friendly staff as well, we would be there every week for a roast if we lived closer. It does not look & feel like a traditional pub it has a working mens club vibe to it, but very clean, was nice & cool as well, lovely atmosphere, Thurs,Fri, & Sat they do eat in or take away Asian food as well, we will definitely be going back without a doubt., would love to make it a monthly visit at least. Forgot to get pictures of dessert, cheesecake, &...
Read moreWhat a dirty, filthy hole. Full of rough and chavvy people. Glasses were dirty, food swimming in grease, sound of the microwave pinging was deafening. Cheap and tacky. Landlady is as rough as hell , along with her partner. Was a bad mistake going into this appalling place, it was my first and most definitely the last visit. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone. No wonder pubs are closing at a rate of knots if this one is anything to go by.........this place should be the next to...
