I stopped for a drink with my aunt a couple of weeks ago and was slapped with a £100 parking fine. I saw the 'patrons only' sign as I was parking, but didn't notice anything beyond that. Apparently you need to enter your details on a terminal inside the pub. The staff didn't say anything. My car was a rental, so the rental firm have added a £45 admin charge. I've tried to contact the pub over the past few days, by e-mail, FB messenger and phone, to help me to clear up this misunderstanding, but nobody is responding. I will happily remove this review if they finally do respond and help me to resolve the issue. But I would highly recommend that the pub change its parking policy. It is convoluted and disproportionate and is tarnishing the pub's reputation.
EDIT: Still no reply from the pub. I submitted evidence of my patronage (credit card receipts) to Parking Eye. They said: "The signage located at the above car park instructs motorists to enter their full, correct vehicle registration into the payment machine or terminal on site. After reviewing our records, we are unable to locate any vehicle details that match your vehicle registration." So, according to them, credit card receipts proving my patronage of the pub was not sufficient. They offered me a reduced fine of £20, which I reluctantly paid because my life is busy and stressful enough already. This is on top of the £45 'admin fee' that the car rental company charged me.
In summary, disgusting conduct all around, and my 1-star...
Read moreThe out side of the pub pulled us in, as we drove past... beautifully maintained front, tables and parasols. Flowers in pots, well maintained building exterior walls. Clean and tidy. Also noted was a table area round the side/rear, next to the canal. Shaded and again very well maintained. A definate draw to the pub on a warm sunny day.
Inside, decorated fitting the old pub style, but very well kept. Greeted by welcoming friendly professional staff who made some suggestions and directed us to tables.
Drinks menu excellent, a wide selection of ale, larger, spirits. And a food menu which excels.
Next... The food. Chicken and black pudding pie, with garden peas and chips. Wow. I have eaten a few pies in my time. But this was the best bar none. Taste sensation. Not over powering but not subtle. Perfectly balanced taste. I thanked the chef for such great food. And enjoyed the sun with my good lady. For sure we will be back. This was a very nice pub, with no negatives. A special thanks to the staff who were excellent; and the chef, whose food was top notch! I don't know if it was freshly made or heated and served. It was spectacular and...
Read moreWe went to the Red Lion for a couple of drinks with friends,
There is plenty of parking to the rear of the property. The location is a mixed bag, it’s on a very busy roundabout, but backs onto a nice nature walk and has the river down the side. The benches outside are a nice sun trap when the weather’s right.
Good selection of drinks, good prices, though the wine is a bit on the expensive side for what it is.
Great service for the couple of the team we dealt with.
A good atmosphere, music playing, but not too loud p.s. someone has good taste in songs. The few other customers we spoke to were chatty.
A very pleasant Friday evening.
We didn’t eat so...
