Hello everyone. Well this public house has always been a mystery to me, never had the opportunity to spend time to visit. It was worth waiting for. The location is amazing. On the quayside with amazing coastline views and the atmosphere with many locals and visitors was so welcoming. The decorations in the pub were authentic and the hospitality also genuinely friendly and welcoming. Great variety of local beers and beverages. The bar area was I'd say Very traditional and compact yet cosy. The food was extremely tasty mine being the Harrisan Sole. Please chef never alter this recipe or presentation. So tasty. The rest of the team had Mackerel, also finished their plates. We were catching up with old friends and joinded in with the pub quizz. Really good host and entertaining. The only small gripe I had was that we sat in the far corner with a lovely view of the entire pub and kitchen and Sadly the smell of cigarette smoke was quite strong. Maybe a temporary ventilation issue. Didn't affect my score but with the eating of such tasty delicate delicious fish, it did mar the experience a little. Please enjoy the photos and videos attached. I would highly recommend any to visit this Cornish Gem. A local...
Read moreSadly this pub relies too much on its setting. As a couple of locals and having some time off we wanted a lunch treat and have been meaning to try the Ship Inn for some time but were very disappointed.
Ordered fish and chips and the chips were good but the fish was very greasy and made us feel queasy. To our surprise as not mentioned on the menu, the peas came with onion diced up small amongst it. Personally I don't feel the flavours go together but more importantly, my husband has an onion allergy and the pieces were so small they were difficult to retrieve and would have tainted the whole flavouring anyway. Portion sizes were very small too and over priced.
When asked if everything was ok by the young chap serving we politely gave our feedback. He listened but was so 2 dimensional that there was little reaction, a blank expression and all that was said was "I'll tell the chef".
We sat and finished our drinks and that was it. We didn't expect a follow up but out of courtesy, it would have been appreciated for management to have come and seen us. Sadly, we won't be returning and will not be able to speak favourably to others about...
Read moreSo good! Stopped here at 1730 on a Thursday evening for an early evening meal and a drink. A couple of seafood dishes were already sold out so were initially feeling dissappointed however the food we had and the atmosphere in the pub was amazing. Had the Mackerel Pate, scallops, Melgrim Sole and the burger. Our children enjoyed their fish goujans and burger from the children's menu. All the dishes were superb. The burger was probably the best I've ever had! The Melgrim Sole so light, fresh and full of flavour. The scallops and the mackeral pate were both also delicious and could have been enjoyed on their own with a drink however we were veylry hungry after a day on the beach. The pub itself has lots of seating, busy outside but loads of availability inside, which we were more than happy with after a day in the sun especially when the inside is so lovel, full of nautical themed items. Porthleven is lovely and this is a great place to stop and eat...
