Just thought I'd take a moment of my time to leave a review from mine and the family's experience from such establishment "the stag & monkey". Upon arrival to the stag and monkey we was all excited to dine up until we entered the establishment and sat down to order. We all ordered and of course as always the drinks come first, well to mine and the rest of the family's surprise, the drink fill quantity was unacceptable for such a glass called a "pint" it was missing a quarter of the drink and even with the ones with ice was the same. The price of £2.90 might not sound like a lot but to me I find it a disgrace as I did not receive my moneys worth. At my local establishment you can purchase a pint for £3.00 and actually have a full glass, with or without ice. Please find a photo attached, which provides evidence of said statement. But we remained calm as it was only a beverage and not the main course. So as we sat and waited for the food to arrive, a few events occurred such as seeing the Lincolnshire pub quiz champion and also hearing conversations from 3 lasses planning on leaving the kids with there dad's and planned a night out to go on the pull. Was rather entertaining, but the mood was still raw as the service that was provided as I'm about to mention now. So having had not a full glass of xoke to help me get through and wait for our food, the fire alarm suddenly sounded and people rushed and panicked to leave the establishment whilst me and a few other families remained seated and wondered where our food was? One or the members of staff ignored the alarm and proceeded to serve the food. I then proceeded to ask if we had to evacuate could I have my food I a takeaway box and have a refilled full glass of my coke but to mu surprise the foood she was serving was mine so I remained seated and decided to retract my question in hand. However, mine and the little ones food arrived but I then had to wait a further 5to10 minutes for the rest of the families food to arrive and only brought half of it out. I still proceeded to wait and got up out of my chair in outrage that I had to use more steps and time to amend my order. I walked over and once arrived at the bar I then proceeded to speak to a member of staff. I voiced that I hadn't received half of my food yet and he was just as disgusted as I was due to the face he's already asked the kitchen staff where several of the remaining food orders where for several other tables. I then proceeded to walk over back to mine and the families table to then notice a young member of staff approaching over to us with the rest of our food. We then could all start to eat but of course we all said grace first and then proceeded to eat. But as we all started to eat the food it was luke warm due to the fact that we had to wait an editional 10to15 minutes to wait for the rest of the food to arrive. But we carried on like soldiers and proceeded to eat the food provided and not be ungrateful. However as we ate our meals we all had some comments and decided it was unsatisfactory and not something we'd recommend to others. We will start with the curry that my eldest daughter ordered, she said and I quote " the curry itself was bland, the chicken was chewy and tasted like street meat such as sewer rats. The only thing positive with the meal was the slightly salted chips" so as you can see she was disgusted and so was I and my wife. But moving on to my wife's meal, she received lettuce upon inside her bun which we strictly asked not for as she can't eat the food once having been contaminated from the lettuce. The fries where adequate with plenty of salt and also sauce. The gravy that was provided was to make up for the disgrace of a dish that was served and now my wife will go starving due to the fact her burger was contaminated. My 2 year old didn't really have anything to say other than the fact she kept trying to feed me her nuggets so I can only take from that she wasn't impressed either. Not going to waste my breath on mine but overall experience was less than unsatisfactory....

We came straight in (a group of 4) and showed ourselves to our table which is completely fine and standard for a Hungry Horse, but everything from there moving forward was not standard for any pub with servers.
All four in the group ordered our food through the app. The drinks arrived immediately, but without even an acknowledgment of our order (which was wrong) or a hello from the manager who dropped the order off. One of the drinks was apple juice, it should’ve been orange juice as shown in the app order and the bottle of coke did not come with ice or fruit as the app asks and was requested. It wasn’t until our food (some 30-40 minutes later) arrived that the wrong drink was fixed as we weren’t checked on at any point in our visit.
It took around 30-40 minutes for food to arrive despite having half the pub tables vacant. We were not told there’d be a wait, nor was I told 2 items from my order were not available until the food was delivered to the table.
I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala, this arrived without the popadoms or chutney, which normally I wouldn’t be that mad about but with how long we had to wait and with the mess with the drinks, it wasn’t the best to be told there was another problem without an alternative option when the food arrived. I’d like to have requested a Naan bread in place of the missing items, but this was chargeable, despite the existing order missing items, help me make sense of that? Had I have known this (which I would’ve if there was any service/check in from staff in the 40 minute food wait) I’d have changed the order.
One of our party also barely touched their main as the chicken in the Chicken New Yorker was tougher than leather.
Finally, we ordered a dessert, - Apple Crumble with Custard, and others in the party ordered the Chocolate Fudge Cake. The food was fine, but as again there was no service, there was nowhere to put the desserts, as our table had not been emptied in the 20 minutes it took dessert to arrive from order. This meant our empty plates had to be awkwardly passed back and traded for hot plates in hand.
Food = 5/10 Service = 0/10
I totally appreciate (and do not judge) Greene King, Flaming Grills etc. on food, but to not even feel like we’ve been acknowledged or have any customer service, I feel should be a prerequisite and standard of eating anywhere. It is unfortunately not a standard of The...
Read moreReview Today was the third birthday meal out we have had in a month for my youngest 3 children. The first 2 meals we had at the Travellers Rest just down the road and they couldn’t have been more helpful. Yet we decided to have a change for this child and popped into The Stag and Monkey. While the young man named Reese was lovely, polite and with a smile :) the older gentleman manager named Wayne was the opposite. His attitude was that of he didn’t want to serve. We were no trouble, we set up decorations and cleared away all mess we made. The little things make the difference. The difference between the two pubs. When asked for a bowl of nuts to put on the table “ we do packets” (S & M)opposed to “ no problem I will get a bowl from the kitchen :) ”(TR) When asked can you bring a birthday cake out for us ? “ yes I suppose we can do but I don’t do “ (S&M)it opposed to “ yes no problem just say when :) “(TR) When asked for a jug of water and glasses even my daughter of 9 yrs old said “ mum he didn’t want to do that he had an angry face” !. When the food arrived we hadn’t cleared space and instead of waiting while we quickly made room he dumped them on top of the stuff. The place wasn’t busy he was just being rude. My children went to the bar to ask for the cake and were completely and obviously ignored by Wayne and they patently waited to be served by Reese. On a positive note Reese was lovely, polite and even said thanks for the cake we sent to the staff, the food was served quick, hot and tasted excellent. It was just a shame it was over shadowed by the man the children named...
